Has anyone had any experience in replacing the valve guides in 911 heads.
My service man says it can't be done as it distorts the head and then the valves don't line up with the seats.

I had mine done in my 964 some years ago. Wasn't very expensive either; done all 6 heads including giving them a good daz up for about £300 !

Your service man is talking out of his bottom, methinks....

You can either press in complete new guides or use a guide-liner, like a K-Line, which is potentially harder wearing, easier to fit and minimises damage to the head itself. Either way you will need to have the seats and valves refaced.

Utter rubbish, the 911 heads get hotter than other types-by design, also being shorter and stouter would mean they should infact be more robust!
One thing slightly OT is that valve guide wear and setting valve clearances is more critical on an air cooled engine than a water cooled one...
