I've posted a previous thread about my car history, but this is the currently family car.
As we don't do many miles apart from visiting family back in Essex (i live 8 miles from work and the wife works 4 miles away), we thought we would treat ourselves to a rather large (to us) upgrade on the C220d estate we have. We bought this VW Touareg 3.0 TDI V6 Rline about a year ago, does exactly what we need it to. Does very little mileage on a daily basis and usually (when not in lockdown) does two longer journeys twice a month, so doesn't actually cost us that much to run. Since owning it all I've spent really is £300 on an MOT and full service. Its pretty decent on fuel on a long run (last years holiday we drove from Northampton to Essex, Essex to Isle of white, and 2 day trips on the IOW before we needed to fill up).
Last week we I gave it a much needed clean and polish, it was an excuse i made to get out of the house and away from a screaming 2 year old, who like me, is going stir crazy stuck in doors all day. It took me roughly 7.5 hours to complete (wash, decontam, clay, machine polish, wax, wheel wax, tyres treating, glass polished and plastics treating). Here as it currently standing, completely standard apart from a dog guard in the boot, although i am seriously considering a remap, and want to get the wheels refurbed to gloss black as i'm not overly keen on the polished face look

Thanks for reading

Just my opinion but I always think people who powder coat their wheels black are trying to cover damage up?

I like the standard ones you have, suits the car.

Why would it look like i am covering up wheel damage? The wheels are absolutely fine, no scuffs or damage at all.
I personally don't like the polished face look so would prefer either dark anthacite or gloss black which i think would like nice again the white paint.

We had a 2017 R Line plus as a school run battle bus, until it got stolen via keyless relay theft last year, Worth getting a faraday cage or disklock if you don't have one.

As for wheels, ours had the 21s" and whilst I didn't mind the finish; with it being so wide in London they were bashed to bits.

For such a big lump, they have a fair bit of shove.

My Touareg is due to go back this month after 3 years with us. It's been a great family car, totally reliable, comfy and surprisingly swift, it is also nicely inoffensive to the general public unlike some of its more in your face competitors.

I've got gloss black wheels on mine (20 inch) which came like that from the factory. Also 19 inch ones which I had powdercoated black for a similar look (for my winter wheels).

I have a pouch that we put the keys in when not in use to stop keyless theft, first thing i bought for it actually after reading all the articles about keyless theft.

I really like the look of yours with gloss black wheels, looks like the facelift model of mine. I think my model and wheels where released when the fashion was for chrome faced / diamond cut wheels, even the qashqua at the time came with wheels finished this way, and i personally don't like them.
I found a really good place in Northampton where we live that done a really top job on my BMW wheels when i had them refurbed to black and i'll use them again this time round i think.

I would also agree, its been very reliable 'so far' and remarkably swift for a big car when you need it to be, especially when you pop it into 'sport'. I have surprised more than a few people with how quick it can be, BUT, a remap would give me that little bit extra.

My sister has one of these, and I really like it, it’s much the same as yours OP, colour, spec, wheels etc

I Wasn’t sure about doing the wheels black, however after seeing the grey one pictured I think they will look great. Polished/diamond cut wheels only look nice in the short time it takes for them to start corroding

Yeah i had similar wheels on my previous merc and they started looking pretty poor after a couple of years even though there were no obvious scuffs and i cleaned / waxed them properly to protect the, for as long as possible.

I'd really love to upgrade the alloys to the same ones shown on the grey Toaureg (came on the face lift model i believe) but they are out of reach, so a refurb in black is the next best thing and I think they will look good.

Nice cars these. OP, you should consider powder-coating the alloys in gunmetal grey. Worked well for me!

Mine is a 2014 - it has 48000miles on the clock and has been very reliable for the 1st year of ownership. Its very comfortable and can get a shimmy on when it has to, but most of the time its used for short journeys to and from work and cruising up and down the motorway at the weekend taking us where ever we want to go in comfort.
