IVA question on an old prototype

All,

I know there have been threads on IVA tests before, but I am never sure what is right.

My specific issue is;

I have a 1 off prototype constructed in 1989 that never made production

I have the logbook for the car it was based on, a 1987 model so it never had an mot

The prototype was never used and was in storage for 30 years

It uses the donor engine, gearbox, suspension etc but has a different body and chassis

The prototype is being prepared for an mot - do I need any additional test or is it exempt being over 10 years old ?

You have a log book for a another car but not this car?

If this car does not have a V5 and you can’t provide sufficient evidence to the DVLA that it’s previously and legally been on the road then it would need a IVA test before it can be registered.

The process would be no different to most kit cars that are built with parts from other cars.

As above - if unregistered in its present form it is effectively a new vehicle so will need IVA. You can download the manual here:

Also, hang on to the donor V5 as you will need this to prove the date of the engine you have used for emissions purposes.

The problems you are going to have are the body is secondhand, it is not an amateur build and getting a test at the moment. Have been and am immersed in a couple of projects that are similar to yours. My current garage. You really need to get in contact with Kev Rooney. Emailing you some details. Should have added and chassis. To be fair the body can be secondhand, but it seems they both go hand in hand in this case. Apologies for typo.
