Getting a (used) car delivered - never having driven it

So from other posts people might have seen I am heading towards getting a Monaro VXR (or possibly a VXR8)

I have never actually driven one but I have been driven around in one.

I know the sensible thing to do is be patient and wait till lockdown is over, go test drive a few, check I actually want the car, then go buy one...

But I keep wondering whether I should just throw caution to the wind and get one delivered, even if I decide I would rather have an e90 m3 I cant see why I wouldnt keep it and enjoy it for at least 6-12 months first, even if just for the noise!

I have seen a couple of decent ones. One from a reputable specialist (MWP in wales) which has a lot of the desirable mods (AP Brakes, Wortec exhaust, Pedders suspension etc) and wonder how often this sort of spec comes up?

Also I have never got a car delivered but feel like people must do it all the time when buying from a reputable dealer and it would save a huge amount of ag!

I think most on here will say hold fire if you can, when we come out the other end of this pandemic no one really knows how car prices are going to be affected, it would be a shame to spend £x on a car only to find out in 6 months its dropped inline with the used car market in general.

I am not saying this is going to happen but its a consideration, also I think its quite brave to buy such a niche car when you haven't driven one yet, appreciate you have passengered one but it doesn't really give you a feel for the car.

Being a PH member I share your sense of 'throw caution to the wind' and am considering a post Covid AMG purchase, the more I look at them the more I think I will just do it now but I staying strong and waiting to see what happens.

Incidentally the two cars you mention are quite different in character I am led to believe, other than being V8 rwd coupe's so perhaps it might be prudent to drive both back to back?

Rather oddly, protections are better for you if your purchase is conducted online and you take delivery of the car away from the dealer, as you are covered by the distance selling regulations. If it arrived and you were unhappy, you can just change your mind and return it. There are, of course, practicalities around how you return it but you have the absolute right to cancel within 14 days of delivery.

The spec sounds good I'd say wait a couple of weeks as I think well have a partial lifting of the lockdown & go from there
