having a mare with Sky Q at the moment. Just 'upgraded' my BT router with range extender 'discs' - however for whatever reason Sky Q doesn't like the new router and drops the wifi every night so the code has to be plugged in again. EVERY. fkING. DAY. There's no facility to 'remember' the password and now the Q satellite doesn't recognise the base unit. Doing my fking nut in.

It does strike me that this may be an opportune time to drop Sky totally and get a basic BT TV package with Sky Atlantic add-on - but if Sky out-performs BT it does seem like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Any thoughts?

I would ditch the BT Router and try again.

Can’t help with the comparison, although I’d be willing to bet SkyQ is better (when working, obviously). I too had early connection issues but solved by hard wiring to (Virgin) router using flat Ethernet cable under the carpet. Not an option for many, admittedly.

BT TV can only be used with their BB, so you can’t use another provider.
IMHO the Sky Q box is night and day better than the BT- but I have only used BT at my mums house.

Have you re-set the router? I was having the exact same issues with Vodafone BB, Sky Ran some tests but could not find any problem as it was fine till it dropped at random... works fine now.

Haven't used the BT Discs but assume they are some form of mesh? There are some very good mesh systems about, I have a TP Link Deco set, I'd bin the discs rather than change TV provider

FYI I had Sky, BT and now Virgin

BT TV was the worst, would regularly miss recordings and nearly all the channels come through the BB so if that goes down you are left with essentially freeview

Also reading again, can the Sky Q not be wired to the router? Seems odd to have it on Wifi?

i've got a Sky HD+ box which works very happily over powerline adaptors, though they really need upgrading to Gigabit since I upgraded to fibre+copper

My main Sky Q box is wired to the router, but the mini box in the bed room works over wifi but it has its own dedicated wifi channel, or that's how I recall what the installer told me.

Ahhhhh

So you have Sky TV and BT Broadband

Or Sky everything and BT Discs on the Sky BB?

I've had the upgraded BT broadband for what seems to be forever, I've recently had a bit of a sort out over my BT broadband bill as it was way too high. Anyway managed to get the BT upgrade with two discs for a decent discount and continued to have the 4K package of BT TV mainly for Rugby and Moto GP.
I also have had Sky Q since it came out, I've lost count of the number of times I've had to unplug the Sky box in an attempt to get it to work properly.
I have come to the conclusion that BT seems to work properly as I have Amazon Prime and Netflix UHD and the BT package delivers this with no issues over the very, very long time I've had it. The fault helpline is okay.
The Sky helpline has been just about passable and if any problems occur it's generally down to the Sky box.
My main gripe with BT are all the bloody adverts, by God it's ridiculous the amount on there.
