Last week when the weather was great we stoppped work ( I work for myself with my wife), we took the Lotus out for a run in the country, she was looking absolutely fabulous (wife and Lotus) and we stopped at a country pub for lunch and sat outside in the sunshine with nobody expecting us back to work. No money worries at last, ex-wife off my back.

I was thinking, what will be the signs when I have 'made it' in life? I know we may all have a 'big' plan (paid off the mortgage, kids through uni and in jobs etc) but is there a moment when you thought or will think that all the little things were in place and life can't get any better?

A whole load of things.

-Getting comfortably into a job that not only keeps me going, but that I also really enjoy doing.

-Living in a place I like, perhaps with a small flat somewhere nice too.

-Owning a car in a bracket that means I can swap it around with other moderately exotic machines without losing any/much money.

-Being able to propose to someone

-Being able to tell my parents 'you're going to be grandparents'.

Nope. But I've got the Griff and had an S, as well as my minis and the Alfa

Sort of almost there (as minimax keeps trying to remind me)

Corrny as 'old Nick', I know but it's all about 'relationships'. Materially, I have no worries whatsoever and I keep reminding my wife and myself something in order to keep things in perspective. Specifically, some years ago my wife had a late miscarriage and we lost the baby. Last year my wife's Mum suddenly died. On both of these occasions I would have given every possession I've got to reverse those circumstances. In short, money buys comfort and relationships buy happiness. Well I said it was corny!

A thief can only steal from you
He cannot break your heart
He can never touch the precious things inside
Someone like you should surely be
Miles and miles away from me
Then you'd never care how much I lied
So try to understand the pain
It takes so long when I explain
Please don't you forget how much I lied
How much I lied

Money cant buy you love..
love comes from the heart it is free and you can give it to whomever you deem worthy.
Money can buy you material stuff, but never true love.

True.

However, if you want to measure it monetarily, I think it will have to be to your own standards (i.e. if owning a home is a sign, what type of home... a caravan or a castle?). Each to their own. Just enjoy what you have and try not to worry about what you do not have.

You have made it in my mind when a surprise mechanical or personal present that you want to buy out of the Blue does not affect your plans. When you can stop putting things on hold (holidays, trips to see friends etc.) because you cannot afford them.

I do not plan on dying owning a load of nice homes. I want to enjoy my time here whilst I can, and enjoy the company of my friends whilst I am doing that. Anything else is a bonus.
