v rated or w rated toyo proxie

since flat spotted my front tyre ive had to buy another,however proxes t1s are no longer made 15" w rated only on v.my tyre fitter assures me this is ok,the pattern is the same and the 888 series.it is now fitted,but i now wonder is this insurance legal and is it safe?

As I understand it, you must fit the same speed rated tyres that were specced on it as a new vehicle. Otherwise fitting a lesser rated tyre could be seen by insurance companies to be fitting a 'lesser' component than as fitted by the factory and could end, as a worse case scenario, making your insurance invalid. It would if nothing else give them some ammunition to argue any possible payout should the worst happen!

On my chim original fit are Z rated. However from here...

It would seem V, W, Y ratings are a newer classification with higher ratings than Z.

So V or upwards should be OK I reckon.

(Just my opinion, nor necesaarily fact!)
