I've rebuild loads of old Beemers in my time but never had the chance to work much on 911's.

Just bought a 993 4S and wondered if the rear disks and pads were a stright forward job to replace.

Also were do I get a good workshop manual?

Cheers

Andy

Visit Robin's site at www.p-car.com and look at the DIY section. Disc change is relatively straightforward. You can buy CD copies of the workshop manuals online at ebay or try posting a question on the Rennlist site.

The 993 workshop manual is available in PDF format for download on EMule. If you then use the office laser printer when everyone else has sodded off you use up a couple of reams and end up with 2 fat folders of handy info...

Always changing pads and disks on my 993TT, from a standing start could jack up car, wheels off, old pads out and new pads in etc in 30 mins. Never bothered with pad wiring through, just gets in the way.
Calipers come off a doddle and the discs come off using a couple of bolts screwed into the threaded holes in the disc bell, watch through they are very heavy and will drop on hand / foot without mercy.

I removed the back plates whilst the discs were off to give a little better cooling.

Hope this helps

Yeah cheers for that help.

Have you ever had to replace the 'shim type things' that sit between the pads and the calipers to stop corrosion?

Hopefully will have the brakes off thurs/friday.

Thanks again
