First time poster.

I sold my Porsche 992 Carrera S last year and ended up buying an AMG GTS. I love AMG and have had a few but I never fell in love with the car and was craving another 911.

I don’t want to buy another 992 of the same model so was considering either:
991.2 Carrera S or 991.2 Carrera GTS

I am looking for a coupe, PDK version.

There is a £10-£15k price difference between the cars and I was wondering if people thought it was worth it?
If the GTS holds its value and retains that difference in 1 or 2 years, I would think its a no brainier if one could afford the more expensive car now?

Want to pull the trigger soon.
Any thoughts?

Yes it will maintain the gap so imo always buy the best model if you can afford the in.

What was your thoughts on the 992 considering you didn’t keep for very long?

Speaking from someone who hasn’t owned a 911 before (so not comparing it to older generations), I loved it and thought it was the best car.

At the time the dealer wanted stock and I got my money back on the car after 5 months, and at the time it was hard to pass up free motoring.

Even if if you lost half the difference in deprecation over 2 years I would still do it....it’s a much better car. S feels like a GT car GTS feels like a Sports car. As it is I think they will at least maintain the difference.

You did very well Tony - I was hoping for the same tbh (or close to it) - I had the first 992 out of my dealership in April. I had a good 5 months in the car and in the end, the best offer I could get was £11k behind list to another OPC.

It will totally different to your 992 and imo in a positive way. In the 991.2 you can still feel the engine is in the rear of the car and it feels a bit looser on the road.
GTS is the best in the range and the 991.2 is a great car. Prices have crashed pretty hard so be fussy, hold out for a good spec and GTS interior pack and you’ll have a cracking car.
You do need to accept the PCM is more old school - I’ve found that ok but it’s personal choice.

Yup. I really like the 991.2 GTS.....think the GTS is a much more rewarding drive than either the 992 S or 991.2 S.

What did you do with your AMG GTS? How was that residual lily and was it easy to move on?

I sold it on Collecting Cars, so it moved quickly.

In terms of price, I believe If I waited until now, I would of done better as cars seem to be shifting more quickly.
I’ve noticed many dealers on sports/Supercars pushing back up prices since they have been allowed to reopen.

Had a 991 GTS and having driven a 992 i would say the 992 is a big step forward. I never fell in love with the 991 and now have a GT4. I realised I was missing the involvement.

Did you have a 991.1 or 991.2 GTS?

My view might be slightly skewed as it’s been a year since I had my 992, and had a 3 AMGs in between, but I prefer my 991.2 GTS over the 992 S.

I may feel differently if I drove them back to back on the same day, but I feel like the GTS is more sporty (might be something to do with spec) and I prefer the analogue dials and buttons.

My GTS is also a mid 2018 cars just before the OPF filter and I wonder if that is changing my senses.

I’m not sure why the GTS is felt to be so much more sporty than the S? It has the sports PASM at 2cm lower, but this can be specced on the S as an option. The power difference doesn’t really contribute to it feeling more sporty and is minimal compared to what can be achieved with tuning.
Maybe the wider body does something (for 2WD)?
You have to like alcantara as well. Not everybody does.

IIRC they did something with the 991.2 GTS so that you got more engine noise in the car. But yes it’s a valid point that some of the USP of the 911 GTS has been lost....when the engines were naturally aspirated the GTS had the W power kit fitted which meant the engine had a different character (more top end power)....with the turbo cars it’s lost that major element of it’s differentiation.

Don’t know on the 991 GTS but on the 997 there were I think stiffer anti roll bars at the front and on that car it was the wide body with the RS/Turbo wheres on 991 it’s not.
