Because the virus and the president isn't enough in the neverending weirdness that is 2020, giant hornets (or murder hornets, because that's more suitable for all this happening now) have got to America. They're 2 inches long and bad news for regular bees, getting your head ripped off bad news, apparently.

Yeah but if you inject yourself with insect repellant and shine an ultraviolet light at them, they won't come near you. Smart. Really smart. Like, 24/7.

Saw a wildlife programme with a bit about them a few years ago(Attenborough?).

The bee victims do have a small form of defence in that they smother the hornet with their own bodies which in turn causes the hornet to overheat and cook its own insides.

'Orrible things.(the hornets)

The hornets? Doesn't seem appropriate tbh.

I don't think this is anything new, many years ago I lived in North America and each summer we would have a horse or two and a person or two killed by hornets...

I saw a massive hornet like this in Northern Territory, Australia, and wonder if it was one of these. I heard a World War 2 bomber fly past my head then saw a wasp five times bigger than I'd ever seen before land on the window about arm's length from where I was sitting.

I called our resident crocodile dundee - inevitably named Brett - and prepared to watch another of his clever bush tricks.

He ttted it with a broom.

Had some large motherfkers two years ago in the shuttering of one of the houses here in North Yorkshire.
Tried spraying wasp killer foam on the entrance to the nest etc and they were unamused.

Called out the council pest control squad - who were very efficient and told me 'n way are they going to be hornets' as 'not had any of those in years round these ways.....

We got one out the bin and verified they were 'Eastern European Hornets' and a big bad ass mo-fo's.

The advice given in Taiwan is if you see one then walk away from it, if you see more than one then run away.

I’m not sure running will be enough. The article said they can fly up to 20 mph. Maybe you just need to run faster than the people you’re with.

Did they crawl in through the bullet holes?
