Cayman 981 warranty extension - Michelin N Rated PS4s?
Discussion
I am looking for experience / guidance of the following;
My Cayman GTS is 4 years old (today actually😉) and I have a booking with my OPC for the 111 point check prior to a warranty extension on 21st May.
The rear tyres will need replacing before the check as they are under the 3mm limit required to pass the 111 point check. I want to move to Michelin after two sets of Pirelli P Zero (current set is the N1 variant).
I can find that the Michelin’s are listed for fitment to the 718 on official Porsche documents, but only Pirelli and Goodyear are listed for the 981 variant. So to my question....
Has anyone had a warranty extension approved on a 981 series car with N rated Michelin PS4s fitted?
Is the N rating the only qualifier or do the tyres also have to be those listed for fitment to the 981?
Many thanks
Rich

I'd contact Porsche GB on this rather than trust that an OPC gets it right:

My opinion is, that it’s fine with any N rated (not track biased) tyres. Especially when other versions of the same chassis use Michelin tyres. My Cayman GTS is 4 years old (today actually??) and I have a booking with my OPC for the 111 point check prior to a warranty extension on 21st May.

Tyre models change anyway. You’ve already had an N1 Pirelli on the car, when they were never supplied oem. Only the N0 version was.
You can’t just fit rears though, as a matched set is required.

When I enquired about the same thing I was told as long as they're N rated they're fine.
Was that an OPC or Porsche GB? Given the varying responses and understanding across OPCs when it comes to the Extended Warranty I'd want the information from the horse's mouth if possible.Twinfan said:

I’m not sure about that. I think it’s underwritten by a 3rd party, not Porsche GB.

Yes it is, but it's offered by Porsche GB so they will have access to the most information about the small print. Asking an OPC will just illicit an opinion IMHO.The small print in the terms and conditions will cover this yes?
Yes, PS4S with Porsche N0 markings are available for all 20" 981 variants bar the GT4.
See list of sizes and OE markings, here: https://www.blackcircles.com/tyres/brands/michelin...
...scroll down on the page for the list.

Had the warranty on my 981CS extended in Mar at East London, and mine is fitted with N rated PS4S. I enquired with Hatfield before I had them fitted (about 18 months ago) and the service guy said as long as they're N rated I'd be ok. Better than Pzero's.
To avoid confusion a "rating" normally applies to tyre limit for speed, e.g. ZR20.Not to be confused with OE markings for different manufacturers, e.g. N0, N1, etc for Porsche.

Being available and approved for use on a 981 under the Extended Warranty are different things. We all know how picky the warranty terms can be!
Ah, I'm with you. Actually, looking at the fronts on the Black Circles link they have the wrong load rating for the 981 at 92Y.Pretty sure the 981 is 88Y.
So that would mean a NO to N0 PS4S fronts. Anyone know if the 718 fronts load rating spec is 92Y?
Thanks all. Pretty much as I thought - some examples of N spec Michelin’s passing the warranty inspection but at OPC discretion....
Part of my challenge is I can’t speak to anyone in the service team at my OPC currently and my appt for 21st May has been arranged with the Dealer Principal via email
Here is the information I can find on line, which includes reference to fitting the same make, type, speed rating and N spec code. No implicit statement about load rating and for the 718 at least, that does vary across the tyres listed (PS4s higher as mentioned above).

Are you sure the 3mm limit is for the warranty check?
I thought this was for an approved used car, how can they refuse warranty if tyres are legal?
My OPC offered to supply PS4S N rated for my GTS so can't see they could refuse warranty!
I am fully expecting a waranty renewal with PS4S N rated all round.
