With HMRC being as much use as a chocolate decat pipe, thought I'd turn to you legends to help out as there is always someone with an answer.

I'm trying to claim under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme for a furloughed worker (me) and keep getting mixed messages from both HMRC and my accountant (who is generally disinterested, I need a new one) so wondered if anyone has experience of a situation like this?

My company pays me an annual salary once a year (under my Accountant's suggestion so I have to file 1 PAYE/RTI return rather than 12 returns each year) which was paid and the RTI submission made on 20th March 2019 and 20th March 2020.

I know the cut off date for CJRS is 19th March 2020, so my most recent RTI submission isn't relevant for claiming under the system... Does anyone know if my 20/03/19 RTI submission makes me eligible for the scheme?

The official guidance states “An RTI submission notifying payment in respect of that employee to HMRC must have been made on or before 19 March 2020” but doesn't explicitly specify the submission should be in the last tax year - though I can see how this might open the system up to abuse.

Just wanted to try and be 100% sure before I give up all hope as I've had two people telling me I can claim, and two telling me I cannot - all supposed 'professionals'.

Appreciate your advice as always! smile
Dave.
