I’m assuming that there’s several of you on here who play this, but has anyone else been having problems getting on to servers over this past week?

It doesn’t matter if I try Official or Community servers, servers in the USA, EU or Asia, I just can’t log in to them.

I’ll select a server, press ‘A’, wait several minutes, then get kicked off for ‘time out’ issues. I know it isn’t an internet problem at home because I can play other games online with no problems.

Just now when I look at the sever list, most of them on pages 1&2 are showing either full, or high, which I don’t believe as I’ve never seen this before.

Is anyone else having problems getting on to Dayz servers? Can anyone give recommendations as to how to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

So a majority of the global population are on some sort of lockdown regime and DayZ is dropped into the Xbox game pass feature and you dont believe that the servers can be full?

Correct.

For weeks now most servers during our daytime are showing as medium or low server population.

The server that I usually play on, (EU sever, 1st person only), only has 20-25 people on it on a Friday or a Saturday night. During weekday daytimes there’s usually less than ten people on there. I’ve certainly never seen the sever classed as medium population outside of weekend evenings. Right now it’s showing as medium. Many other servers are showing as ‘high’ or ‘full’, which even during this CV-19 lockdown is unheard of. Just over a week ago many of the servers were showing as ‘empty’, when I suspect they were actually not.

I downloaded it this morning because it’s on gamepass.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s taken a look out of curiousity. I’m not surprised the servers are busy.

It’s been like this for about a week now. Even servers listed as medium or low are inaccessible.

I got into a server fine earlier, maybe a problem at your end? A change in NAT settings or something.

Thanks Zed. That’s what I’m trying to figure out.

What I can’t get my head around is how I can play other games online with no problems. All updates on DayZ are up to date as far as I’m aware. There hasn’t been any other updates since 1.07 has there?

First obvious thing to try would be to reboot your router to make sure it hasnt got a stuck port. After that there is a connection test you can run from the Xbox that will tell you the status of NAT and UPNP etc

I've downloaded it and I'll give it a go later. One of my friends is currently sitting in a queue to get into a server on Xbox.

It's the start of the bank holiday weekend, half the country is on furlough, the game has a bit of buzz about it and it's free to download on gamespass. It's a recipe for server disaster.

I like it. It’s a challenging game with a massive map.

I suspect the enjoyment of it depends on how you like to play and the server you are on, (I play on Xbox). I currently play on an EU German server which is usually quite sparsely populated and the guys I’ve met on there, (mainly older Dutch and Yanks), play the game sensibly.

Compare that to other servers full of hackers, cheats, spawn campers and bandits, and those kind of servers aren’t much fun to play.

The map is so huge, the environment so harsh, that I prefer playing a game of survival and discovery rather than PvP shoot on sight battles. You start with nothing, lucky to survive your first night, but as you find more kit you can hunt, fish, forage, cook, craft items, find better guns, ammo and warmer clothes.

About the biggest problem with DayZ, (besides not currently being able to get on a server!), is that you can’t just switch it on for a quick 20 minute game after lunch like you could do with a game like Wreakfest. In such a short period of time you’d get nothing done, so it really needs at least 2-3 hours on it per session.

Overall, on the right server, I’d give the game a solid 9/10 with a 10/10 for long term playability.

Went for it over the weekend via the games pass. Managed to get a few games in (few servers had massive queues but just tried a bunch).

Pretty decent, UI/inventory isn't the most obvious thing to use. Things like equipping food, bandages etc in a hurry is a clunky experience.
AI seem pretty good, too. Though I st myself when I found out the zombies can climb walls hehe
Fists/blunt instruments are a winner, for sure.
Found a couple friendly folk, a couple not so friendly. I came across one chap at a trainstation somewhere, both fairly low on kit so he said to come with him, followed for a wee bit, looted a couple houses but it was a set up! Had is friend wait for him under a bridge who appeared and they both tried attacking me, yet somehow I managed to beat them to death. It was quite amusing but unfortunately it took so long to get bandaged up, I bled out, but it was still a fun experience.

Biggest problem I'm having is food, really struggle finding much. Tried scoping the coast, built up areas. Even buildings that haven't been touched barely have any. Managed to gather two rifles & a pistol, a good bit of ammo but all I had was a bag of rice and the apple I spawned with!

Rod200sx,

Survival for the first day or two is tough, especially if you spawn in the rain or spawn close to night time.

If you’re struggling for food then fruit found at the base of apple, pear and plum trees can be a life saver. These fruit trees can be found in the gardens of houses or along the side of the road near most semi-rural areas. Don’t try and pick fruit actually from the trees as that’s not possible. Search the ground around the base of the trees.

Other places to try are the roundels of hay that you see in fields or near farms. At the base of these roundels of hay you’ll find mushrooms. These can be eaten raw, dried or boiled.

Never eat rotten or burnt food. Don’t eat raw meat.

Fishing is possible, although the latest patch removed the ability to place a fish on a long stick to cook it over a fire. However, you can still cook meat this way.

Fish and meat are the two foodstuffs that will fill you the most and fill you for the longest. If you see a chicken, a pig, a sheep or a cow, kill it, skin it and cook the meat as soon as you can. Once this meat is cooked it will stay fresh in your backpack for ages. Other wild animals such as elk / deer can be hunted, but these are a lot harder to kill than regular livestock.

Drinking water can be hazardous, even from wells. Try to find some chlorine tablets to purify water, otherwise sooner or later you’ll end up with cholera. If you do get cholera then you’ll need to take a couple of shots of tetracycline.

Tetracycline and chlorine tablets can found in medical facilities.

Canned drinks are always safe. Bottled water is usually safe. Water from wells is hit and miss. Water from anywhere else is just asking for serious trouble.

Do a google search for Dayz Wiki for loads more useful hints and tips.

Usually, once you’re 10 hours into the game and have some half decent kit then survival is a lot easier... until you come across packs of wolves or a pissed off bear.

Edited to add:

If you haven’t downloaded the ‘iZurvive’ app yet on your phone, do so. It features a highly detailed map of Chernarus and direct links to the DayZ wiki. Then all you need is a compass and navigation across this massive map is a lot, lot easier.

Just downloaded this out of curiosity, just a quick basic question, when I quit the game and come back to it in a different server, do I keep the stuff I find and it’s treated as a continuation from the last server? Or do I lose everything and start again every time I join a new server?

Also i got killed by some zombies and it said tonrespawn would kill my character, so I exited the game and joined a new server and my character was back?

Thanks

I have played for years and have mixed feelings about DayZ.
I love the open world survival aspects, social interactions with some of the other players and some of the pvp interractions. However, the constant cycle of....

1. Spawn
2. Attempt to survive everyone trying to shoot you on sight whilst gearing up to travel to the military camps and airfield
3. PvP with anyone on the airfield
4. Death (inevitably)
5. Go to 1 and repeat ad infinitum

....has gotten a bit tedious.

My all time favourite moment in any game was hearing the wolves for the first time. Nearly going dark, walking along a woodline with nothing but the godawful skorpion .

Spooked and looking about like crazy in the twilight - nothing there, I'm ok.

5 seconds later, running like a madman with a pack of wolves chasing me down whilst trying to dodge their pounces. If I could scream in game, I would have been.

Death.
