Hi All,

I'm looking to operate a members map for a Facebook group I'm on, It's a world wide group but looking to map out UK members (might make it world wide eventually)

I've created a new map under "my maps" in Google. I've got a share link but anybody I send it to cant add there location to it, its read only.

Any ideas how to execute this? I want people to be able to add their approx location while I keep full control of the map.

I'm thinking you'd need to maintain a database of member locations on a server somewhere. I do something comparable on a Synology NAS box, or could be in the cloud somewhere. Could be a combo of (at simplest) HMTL./CSS, PHP, MySQL/MariaDB and Google Maps API

Be aware though that if you want to show the location of identifiable individuals on a web page, that would be subject to GDPR - you'd want to ensure that you obtain and log members' consent, protect the users' location data from mass download and have a procedure for users to remove or correct their data

Unless someone knows a simpler way to do this?

Use a google form, get members to enter their rough coordinates. The form will create a spreadsheet for you.

Format that correctly and you can import it to your map; job done I would have thought.

I was hoping there was an easy way of sharing the "map" from Google than they can just add their location to.
