Today saw an all Black new shape Vantage (0007 *** plate) driving through Tanworth in Arden and it looked absolutely menacing as it came from under the shadows of the trees, Awesome, and definitely growing on me. Looked truly stunning

You won't find me disagreeing with you there macdeb. The new Vantage is a stunning looking vehicle. I've only had the pleasure to drive one for 30 minutes or so, but fantastic to drive too.

I think there is no doubt about it , it does have road presence but it's just not for me that's all.

You will remember the UK 'give away' new Vantage PCP deals last December. We presumed at the time that (1x£1,000 plus 23x£1,000) was to move a build up of unsold dealer stock.

The 2019 UK 4th quarter new vehicle registration figures have now been published. Whenever I post any UK sales figures, it is always followed by incoming flak.

Therefore, if you are interested, here is a link to the government DVLA spreadsheet;

These cars don't do well in black/grey in my opinion.

Beautiful looking thing, I just cannot get over the Mercedes drive train. Not that I could afford one but if I was in a position to do so, this would put me off.

To my statistically untrained eye, it looks as if they succeeded. DBSS sales in particular also look pretty healthy. Mind you some bargains are beginning to appear on the AMAUC website. Not sure why people are registering DB7's though.

Unfortunately Buster, I don't think many people on this forum would. It's just not Aston Martin you see. No matter how good it is (and it is, make no mistake about that), it is just too big a leap to contemplate.

Just to buck the trend, I have driven one, and I posted what I thought was a fairly comprehensive review in the New Vantage thread at the time (August 2018). If you get bored, have a scroll through. Not a huge amount to criticise really. But as CB says, it just didn’t make me yearn to chop mine in for one. Let’s try to not make this thread in to another Vantage bashing thread though. There are enough of those on here as it is. Each to their own etc etc.

Best Regards

Only done 800 miles since December, but I cant fault it. I love the generic shape and then the small attention to detail everywhere. Inside feels great (oooh eerr missus) and you are soon at home with layout. Parking beepers go nuts at low speed, but you can turn it off. Tend you use camera system when navigating tight corners etc.

The engine, drive train, handling and brakes are just right. AM are a small car manufacturer and cant make everything. Picking the Mercedes/AMG engine is a brilliant decision imo. All the associated bits (cruise, sat nav) that mercedes supply seem to work very well. Cabin and seats are very comfortable.

It is hard to be discrete (mine is dark blue with external black pack) but you can if you try. But it is soon spotted and everyone wants to talk to you about it.

Goes like thor when need be and engine sounds wonderful. Power seems relentless and much more than I need.

Negatives - Cabin a bit noisy at 70-75 mph. Engine note lost as speed increases. My legs are not long enough to use the knee rest!

This AMV is like the new defender. It is very different to the previous model and some of the changes are required for all sorts of reasons (safety, design, economy etc). Some folk will never like it and it is a shame people (who maybe don't own one) knock it without spending time in it, but honestly when you own/drive the new one you wont want to go back.

Watch the Harry Metcalfe, Henry Catchpole and Autocar reviews (sensible YT british/modest influencers) and they agree.

Nice write up Robert. I have the V8 in a DB11, and it too sounds fantastic, especially in the Sport and Sport + modes. Accelerating hard is so satisfying. Thankfully, the brakes are good too, but just recently they have started to squeak a little - a known DB11 issue, but easily remedied I understand. Is the new Vantage prone to that too ?

Does your Vantage have the original mesh grille or the newer style slatted one ? I can't make up my mind which one I prefer, although I've yet to see the slatted version in the flesh. Tell you what, put a couple of photos up if you can smile

The people who discount them without trying are wrong to do so, and I think they are a very good, desirable car.

However, the idea that after driving one you won't want to go back... I had an early car for the weekend, and whilst I thought it was very good, it just didn't get the "I have to have one" feeling. I wanted to, I even went and borrowed another recently when the deal was on as a car for my Mrs, but I again didn't get the right feeling and realised I was only interested as it was such an incredible deal. So I passed.

I'm interested to see how it develops and as more hardcore versions become available there might be one for me. I remember driving the 570S Spider when it came out and it also didn't excite me, then I drove the 600LT and had to have one (as they were also on a great deal.)

For my tastes in driving (lightweight seats all the way!) I hope a less comfortable, more bumpy, more scary version of the new Vantage is on the way, then I will look again.

Hope you get to rack up some more miles soon and keep enjoying your car.

Agree with you. I purchase cars to drive and enjoy and this car delivers. I have a 2020 AMR with manual. For me the faults are minor but keep the car from being a world class offering that is worth the $. Lousy stereo, ancient tech (no Apple Car Play), no auto high beams, little things for sure but they add up. Not fatal but annoying.

I've always been a fan of the marque. In 2006 I took a new Vantage on a test drive in Los Angeles and it broke down on the drive. Literally stopped working during the test drive..... It took me years to even consider the brand again. People can complain and moan about MB bits, etc.... but the new car is a blast to drive, looks fine, feels special and, very importantly, won't leave you stranded.

Nope. I've driven it. It's a truly excellent modern (double-edged sword) sports car. But, for me, the Benz engine has no place in an Aston Martin. Absolute, fundamental deal-breaker.

About the looks, it definitely does have presence, but let's just say it hasn't grown on me.
