Smoking outside the house
Discussion
Maybe this should go in the 'Weird Neighbours' thread.
During the lockdown I have started to notice some of the irritating habits of my neighbours that I managed to avoid or was too busy to notice when I commuted to work.
Don't flame me [if you'd pardon the pun] because I don't smoke, so might not be aware of the routine that smokers get used to, but the neighbours opposite (particularly one of the occupants) enjoys leaning over his front garden wall with a cigarette in his mouth. Sometimes when I go out for my morning jog he's stood there with a cigarette in his mouth looking gormless in my direction. Everyone has back gardens so why would you do this in the front garden? I suppose i have two issues 1. it looks 'council' 2. i'm not a fan of smokers!

Jog somewhere that you will less offended !

I've always wondered this. You go to a pub with a big back garden, and it's empty but there's half a dozen old
s smoking in front of the front door.
I totally understand it in a pub/house without a back garden. I'm indifferent to others smoking and I don't really care where they do, but I just don't get why you wouldn't do it at the back if you have that space

Getting "irritated" by this to the extent you start a thread for discussion on an internet forum must be pretty high up on the list of "first world problems".During the lockdown I have started to notice some of the irritating habits of my neighbours that I managed to avoid or was too busy to notice when I commuted to work.

Try cracking on with your own life and be grateful you have no greater pressing issues,

He most likely thinks you are weird going out for a morning jog.During the lockdown I have started to notice some of the irritating habits of my neighbours that I managed to avoid or was too busy to notice when I commuted to work.

Each to their own.
At least you can claim the moral high ground if it makes you feel better

Phew - it's not just me then. As a comparison, I made some Bruschetta with smoked salmon and Philadelphia on a tray and munched them in my front garden a few days ago. The immediate neighbour asked me (in a friendly way) why I was having breakfast outside? A nice healthy meal with plenty of Vitamin D. Food tastes better outside as well.fido said:

I read about that on the 'Weirdo neighbour alfresco toast muncher' thread.Several of the neighbours across the road stand outside in their dressing gowns and smoke. But it is social housing so it’s to be expected. (That’s not to be taken seriously please they’re actually all very nice)
I got gifted too much wine last Christmas so Mrs Draw took some across while a couple of them were out. They met halfway at the side of the road having a good chat all in dressing gowns including Mrs Draw. It was quite funny.

You can’t be gifted too much wine. Still, nice gesture. I got gifted too much wine last Christmas so Mrs Draw took some across while a couple of them were out. They met halfway at the side of the road having a good chat all in dressing gowns including Mrs Draw. It was quite funny.
But why is it more often than not the social or affordables that do this. They have a back garden so why not use it.
Round my way it seems they:
1) Have a chair permanently out front for the coffee and cigarette
2) thier boys bikes leaned against the front of the house
3) Oil will be left on the driveway due to the Ford Focus ST they never service but always drive hard

Quite so. And although I've now given up a twenty a day habit, it is worth adding that I never smoked inside after my son was born. So that's 21 years of outdoor puffing. but my living room wallpaper will not need replaced every year.
