What people thoughts on a rapids AMR?
2019 car what are they like and what people’s thoughts on future values? In about 2-3 years?
They've plummeted in value in recent months. Nearly £75k cheaper than when new - whether that makes them a good buy, I'm not sure. The inconvenient truth is there's no safe haven car to stick money in, those days are gone. If you're concerned about losing money, don't spend it on a car. There might be some great deals between now and Christmas, as dealers try and regain lost ground, but nobody knows what future values look like. It's hard to tell what they'll look like in 2 months, let alone 2 years.2019 car what are they like and what people’s thoughts on future values? In about 2-3 years?
In terms of the actual car - I spent some time in a prototype with Neville from the factory; IMO, the mix of handling, brake pedal feel, soundtrack and overall stance, make it one of the best production cars to ever leave the factory. In uncorked the potential of that chassis, and for a big girl of a car, it's physics defying to drive, particularly when you're giving it some beans.
There's the tactile nature of the handling and brake pedal feel that cannot be easily replicated in newer cars, and the noise which is closer to a GT12 than a Vanquish S (reduced soundproofing etc). They're special cars, which will probably remain under the radar, because much like the regular Rapide, it was thought of as being too big, too heavy, when in actual fact, they're brilliant to drive.
I have a huge soft spot for them to be honest but when the car was first announced at the time of the AMR brand launch, I must admit I was confused by the concept of an AMR Rapide.
It seemed to not fit at all with AMR, but then I saw one in the flesh and all the doubts and confusion went away in an instant. It has a huge level of street presence that even many other Aston's struggle to match. I think somebody likened it to an Imperial Star Destroyer on a thread once, which sums it up rather quite nicely!
It has the GT12 spec 595bhp engine and a Zagato comparable level of bespoke upgraded trim and design items, a very full options list as standard, and that full length carbon fibre centre console is just a thing of exquisite beauty. I managed to get a test drive around 6 months ago and its been on my wish list ever since, it's a weapon!
As for price - yeah they didn't sell well early on because it was just too much of a step up over the Rapide Shadow Ed, and probably misunderstood by many (like my initial thoughts), but that said there are deals to be done now and a couple of used ones on the market too. How will their value will stand the test of time, I dunno, but for sure its a special motor, so who cares! There are no pockets in shrouds!
