Hi Chaps,

I have a 964.

Just got the car back from a garage which shall remain nameless for now.
They hooked in to a Bosch unit, it came up with an injector fault, number 1.
The Labour charge was £220 + VAT to replace an injector, dizzy cap and rotor arm. The parts cost was 115.89 + VAT.
A whopping £374.67 in total.

Is this fair??? JZ Machtech said it's about 1.5 hours work.

Cheers

Sunil

The price for parts sounds about right. Labour seems high. Sounds more like 5ish hours of labour. Unless they charge £140/hour!

I would ask them what else they did? - And why did it take them that long? They may have found something else wrong and spent time on that?

Hi Tom,

Here's whats on the invoice:
Collect car/Deliver car. Carry out diagnostic check on vehicle. Check for poor running, check over basic engine tune, remove and replace one distributor cap and rotor arm, (shorting out), carry out diagnostic check on engine and trace misfire on No 1 injector, remove various components, remove L/H injector rail, replace No 1 injector, refit rail and run engine, refit various components. Carry out check over vehicle. Check brakes (front and rear). Road test vehicle.

Now I was sitting in the car when they initally diagnosed the injector problem. They also had the car for over a week. Perhaps they charged me storage?? .

I was also told that pick up drop off were free.

Total balls really.

Cheers

This is where a forum all goes a bit pear shaped. Addspeed aren`t a garage that we know and we have no connection with them. If JZM can get from London ? to Horsham and back, drop the wheels off a car and check the brakes, (possibly rear discs as well to check handbrake), give a car the once over, diagnose and repair poor running and then get from Horsham to London ? and back in an hour and a half then they are the boys, especially when each journey to and from your home will require 2 people.

In fairness to JZM if you merely asked them how long to change an injector, dizzy cap and rotor arm then they`ll tell you around 90 minutes but that`s not quite the whole story it is ? How long for instance does it take to diagnose the problem, not just to think you know what the problem is but to definately diagnose the problem.

I don`t know what their labour rate is but with collection and delivery they`ve probably given you 8 man hours of their time, insurance, tools, the use of their workshop, phones, etc ,etc. And all that for £220. I bet not many of you lot, (or if you are employed your employers), would offer the same service.

We do no service work on site and so it`s an area where I`m a punter just like you lot, all be it we probably spend a third of a million pounds a year rather than a couple of thousand.

If you are unhappy with the bill phone them up, be really nice to them and ask them to run through the bill with you. A good garage will be more than happy to explain their charges.
