Shifting in to reverse problem Suzuki Swift

I've got a diesel BMW 3 series but me and the wife hates driving it around town, we wanted something small and cheap that wouldn't be the end of the world it another driver scraped it in a car park.
I bought a 2010 Suzuki Suzuki Swift and it's been great apart from one thing, I'd often find it difficult to shift in to reverse, the wife never encountered this but It always seemed to happen to me. Today I realised that when shifting in to reverse I subconsciously very slightly go in to 5th. Now i've stopped this it slots in every time, I feel like a fool! Is there a mechanism in some gearboxes that prevent 5th to reverse engagement ?
