Mother in law gave me two glass bottles of milk a few weeks back and one smashed on the drive home. Tried washing with disinfectant and then repeated sprays with various things but no luck - it stinks.

Any suggestions to treat it or is it easy to get the front lining out of the car to wash?

Take out carpet. Shampoo it properly with carpet machine.

Adding more chemicals on top isn’t ideal.

Happened to me a good few years ago. Company car thank god. Did everything several times, carpets out, soundproofing out, bleach etcetc. Never got rid of the lingering smell on a hot day. Made up when the car went back a few months later. Good luck it's a tough one

You'll never get rid of it unless you lift/take the carpet out.

Have a look at the Rug doctor range of cleaning stuff.

Don't cry over it wink

Its worth getting one of the pet stain removers that uses a enzyme to remove organic particles.

If it’s in your Porsche...I would actually consider a new carpet...and whatever is under it.. get a professional in.

We had an incident with an uncooked dauphinois on the back seat of our Range Rover..it took two years and 3 professional steam cleans before it eventually subsided...(yes I do get how 1st world flouncy problem this sounds).

I’m not judging, just smiling because I’m not the only one it’s happened to. biggrin

I’m going to try steam cleaning first. Had a look at the trim pieces and both parts look like around £300 together, not too bad if it comes to it. Underneath is just the bare body shell.

Thanks, I’ll try this after the steam clean and last resort I’ll replace both trim pieces.

White vinegar. Give the area of the spill a good scrub with white vinegar and then leave a bowl of the vinegar in the boot overnight. Don't forget to remove in the morning.

Make a paste of bicarbonate of soda and water. This will kill the bacteria and until you do that the smell will keep coming back,

Options:

1. Get the lining out as you say.

2. Trade in the car.

Mine just unclips with several press studs so I can take the entire front carpet set out in a jiffy.

I take it the later cars have 'improved' that ?

A proper valeter (rather than a detailer) will ask what was spilt and will have the correct products to clean/counteract it.
As and example. my sister's eldest son projectile vomited in their then X5. They took it to a valeter who not only wanted to know what bodily fluid he was dealing with, but what my nephew had eaten prior to being sick in the car !!
Once done, the smell NEVER returned.

Edit to add, but if you insist on trying to sort it yourself, try this :

Red wine. Just pour a full bottle of red wine into the boot. That will mask the smell of the milk. Who doesn’t like the smell of red wine?
