So with the extra time I thought I would attack the water spots in the paint... polished out... great, looks good...did you leave the key in, did you leave the doors open yes... did you flatten the battery and leave the trunk closed... yes. Did the wrong wax arrive, yes, did the cigarette lighter adapter for the battery conditioner work... no... enough of the lockdown woes... so the Jack and axle stands arrived for a look around underneath... hmmm some rusty bits.. so are they salvageable? Actuator looks like it is from the titanic but it works... have a look at the pictures... can I rub them down and use rust converter.. what do you recommend?

I wouldn't bother with rust converter. It doesn't really work. You need to remove the rust and then seal it.

In terms of the rusty bits, they don't look terrible but you need to clean them up and see what you're actually dealing with. Powdery surface rust can sometimes make things look worse than they are

Just needs a wee rub down then a soak with rust eater (Bilt hamber Deox gel).

Once rust is eaten use a black epoxy primer (used on boats, offshore installations).

SML paints do their own brand of smaller 2.5l tins or for larger areas theirs Jotun 87 or 90.

Just to add - Bilt Hamber anti-corrosion products do work well, better than anything else I've tried.

Worth a go - and get their car shampoo and claybars at the same time - again, the best I've used.

No affiliation as they say, just a happy customer.

Ok. I have the bilthamber stuff, I used it when I did the front. It’s great. I have finally invested in a good jack and axle stands, so a project for summer. Rear bumper off, wheel arch liners etc... I need to stock up on the replacement black torx screws and the fixation spring thingymijigs. Just waiting for the wax I ordered and then get back on the road and use it now the lockdown is relaxed here in France smile
