Looking for a fun coupe/convertable car under 5k

hello,
i was looking at getting a new car under 5k that was a convertable or coupe.
i was looking for something i wouldnt fear would break whenver i drive it and you wont see millions of at every car show.
this is a bit of a stretch i know for 5k
i was looking at:
MK7 toyota celica (GT or VVTLI(the 190hp one))
BMW z3 (2.2 6 cylinder)
thought about an MX-5 however was looking for something a little more nieche

any suggestions?

If you can live with the fuel then for me it's the CLK 55 AMG they're rare & have been pretty solid price wise for the last few (the C55 has just sky rocketed in price) years, I'm bias but they're cracking cars & pretty much bulletproof so I'd say one of these:

I had very little interest in my 3.0Si Z4 Coupe on 91K miles earlier this year until I dropped the price to £6,400, and it sold for a bit less in February. Luckily as things have turned out!

I had a Celica T sport for 3 years and it was one of my favourite cars. Sold it to buy a family car when our Son was born but I do wish I'd kept it really.

As a daily it could be a little frustrating as there is no torque so you do need to cane it to get anywhere. Great fun but also noisy and overall refinement is lacking. Steers well for a fwd car and I've always thought they look good. You don't see many around now and whenever I look prices seem to be on the up.

That said, you're in a position to buy a 2 seater rwd sports car which will be more fun still. I bought the Celica for the decent boot and rear seats.

Strikingly beautiful cars they are. How much lower can it go though? I know the Z3 breadvan had a very limited production, but I can't help but think the Z4 coupes could go the same way in the future. Definitely on my short list once I can justify running a toy again. Challenge is deciding if coupe or convertible. Coupe looks better IMO, but bit at the back of my head would always be annoyed I can't get the roof down on a summer drive / road trip.

I bought my Z4 2.5 about a year ago for well within that budget and would recommend looking at them, as others have.

3.0 probably the one to go for, but buy on condition (check if the roof motor has been replaced and/or relocated) and potentially a coupe if you fancy it (they do look great). Definitely get a six cylinder for the noise!

Had one of these on a 52 plate Convertible. Great car and lovely to drive. Not sporty but great cruiser and sounds great.

Toyota MR2 (1st, 2nd or 3rd gen) - probably more entertaining than the equivalent Celica
Nissan 350Z (coupe or convertible) - a fair number available under £5k
