Route plan to GPS
Discussion
Booked Friday off work, have a route from Biker's Britain I want to follow.
I have an android phone, how to get the route onto turn based GPS on the phone? I have tried google maps but this just takes my designed route and recalculates it when I upload it to the phone.
Thought it would be easy but apparently not!

I always use Google Maps, but I add custom waypoints to route me where I want to go. Use a desktop if you can as that makes it easier, then you can even send the route to your phone directly. Click on the icon on the phone and it'll fire straight into the route.
Which one are you planning on doing? I'd be happy to give it a whizz, I've got the same book here.

The answer seems to be: my route app

Thanks for the link, went with https://kurviger.de/ £8.99 for the pro app with turn by turn. Plan on PC using https://kurviger.de/, scan qr code and it is on the mobile ready to start guidance.

Mine seems to chuck all the waypoints in the bin and just offer a plain A->B route. Sounds like the OP has the same issue but I don't understand why.So it's ok if you just want to go: A, B, C, D but not if you wanted to go on specific roads between them.

IIRC it keeps the waypoints but loses your preference of route.

That's what you use the waypoint for though isn't it? That's how I use them anyway, drop the waypoints so the route takes you via the roads you want. The only issue I have is it means if it's a long trip you need to sometimes split it into segments but it's not a problem and worth it for the extra functions Maps offers. So it's ok if you just want to go: A, B, C, D but not if you wanted to go on specific roads between them.
When I tried waypoints on Google maps, I go stuck as it asked if I wanted to continue my journey at each waypoint, I therefore had to stop and take a glove off after each waypoint.
You have to put enough waypoints in to cover the roads you want, you can't modify the map by dragging as it will lose that when sending it to your phone.

Planned tomorrow's route, dead easy on the map and easy to add additional waypoints to move the route where you want it to go. Takes seconds to upload to the phone via QR code. Will see how the turn based nav works tomorrow!jjones said:

Long story short it is well worth the 8.99, the web site is a breeze to use and transfer to phone seamless.
It seemed to get it's knickers in a twist as the first and last way points were my house - next time first way point will be a point a few miles away with the last being the house.
The turn by turn voice commands were not perfect - you wouldn't use it for pace notes; however, probably 8/10. Minor things such as "turn slight right" might mean a 90 degree T-Junction. It re routes after 30 seconds or so if you go wrong which was good.
