To this for some track work and replace the Maserati with a Cabrio MC

Or change the Maserati for this which should do both jobs of track and touring

I want to get back in a cabrio for some winter sun but also want to start racing in a couple of years so want to get back on track for some learning, trouble is, i have never yearned for a car so much since i tested the AMG before lockdown but i’m aware my heart is ruling my head and think it might be a case of too many eggs in one basket, ie it might not do either job very well (touring or track)
Any opinions?

If you want a car that you can use on the track & on the road there are lots but if you want to hone your skills then get two cars, for the track car get a road car that has had the conversion work carried out because you can then drive it to the track & when that moment comes (as it always does when you're starting to push on) you're not meeting the armco with 100k's worth of car.

I like the Evora & they're a great steer but if you're serious about racing get something that you can play with suspension wise & start honing your skills from the start.
Now if you really want a convertible you can take to the track then I'd say lookout for a Z06 Corvette:

Or the newer Gran Sport/Z06 depending on budget:

Evora is great, I am on my second, but when you have a stable of cars I would have thought you would want to a track oriented steed. If you want road legal go Exige, no road legal there are some interesting single seaters, or go for something that has a race series like the Ginetta.
The AMG is nice, but it’s quite heavy and will be expensive on track on terms of brakes and tyres.

But I'd really go the two car route.
I think id worry too much about a 150k car tbh and also expect too much of it..
Ive always hankered for an R8 but couldn't push to the V10 last time round, been reading a great thread on here about the R8 so think i’ll go spyder route for the tourer (will test to see if comfort and ride are good enough) as a replacement for the Maserati.
That V8 powered Beemer really appeals but i’d have to trailer, I know i’ll have to eventually but think id prefer a car i can drive to the track for the time being, i quite like the idea of classic racing in my future though, something old school that needs man handling, sort of AC cobra stylee so maybe i should get something less scalpel and more hammer? I dont think the evora really fits the latter..
Have always fancied one of the GTD40s ever since my mate used to build them, wander what they’d be like on track?
60k on the R8 leaves 40-50 for a GT40, could be a very fun combo, no?
Thanks for all the links zx10, lots of trawling on the racecarsdirect one, brilliant!

Not sure if you're allowed to race GTD's as they're not really a classic, check with your friend to be sure.I think id worry too much about a 150k car tbh and also expect too much of it..

Now if you want a road legal track car that's special whilst not being to maintenance heavy then there's this & you'll have no worries about it being good on track then this is it:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2017-Ultima-GTR-6-2-V8-...
Also look at Ginetta's as they have various race serious & qualify for GT5/4 class racing
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ginetta-G40-R/333398618...
A link to Ginetta:

Or there's Radical:

Half the budget but not half the fun is this Supercharged E92 M3

R8 Wise I'd look for the GT Models

Also if you're going racing don't get a trailer get a truck trust me I know, I spent good money on a trailer then kitted out a van & still ended up buying a truck it works out easier & cheaper especially when you know the car/bikes are in the truck with you over night.

Tested the R8 v10 Spyder today and i was very underwhelmed, its good but doenst feel that much quicker than the Maserati and that already feels lacking, very little torque from the v10 which was surprising, exhaust sounds tinny until revving, very sure footed but quite mundane and a bit porsche / germanic in its behaviour and never felt like you were driving something special, was expecting more but it just felt like a tt that had morphed, seats were awful for me as they were the sports seats with the massive wings that hunched my shoulders forward, so uncomfortable to, ride was ok but not brilliant. i understand why people say its not a supercar.
But they also had a white c7 ZR1 there, first time id seen one, It looked like it had one purpose! Race! sat in it and it was lovely, seats perfect and they had ventilation to! full carbon with grey alacantara, looked really nice, felt reasonable quality to previous generations ive had. Sounded so fekin angry and the switchable exhaust (acropovich) didnt sound much quieter when switched when stood still, normal? Yet to take it out as i didnt have time but the guy reckons it rode better than the R8, so hopeful..
Going to try and get to 51st state now to view that purple cabriolet z06 if i can.
Have added a v12 vantage and 5.0 f-type to the list as well..
Will think about the track car once this one is sorted but at least progress was made today, well, one out of the game and one introduced! Sort of progress

The C7 Z06 is one of my favorite (I've hired them a few times when in the US) cars the carbon really lifts the interior the drive is epic & a 7.0 V8 (C6) never gets old my uncle had one before he bought his GT350R & both are truly special cars. I think you'll like the drive
The C7 Z06 is supercharged too but not to the same level as the ZR1 but both are stonking on the track.

I was really taken with the ZR1 tbh, to be that focused and still have comfort and toys!
I could swing the other way.. If I could pick one up for 100k it’d leave 30k on a roadster for the two up euro / restaurant jaunts, S63 for the family trips..
Can’t get that corvette out of my mind, the std C7s that he had there didn’t do it for me as much, I think because they were red and just looked like Ferrari wannabes tbh
Have you been in the C8 yet?

No I haven't driven a C8 yet due to Covid I've not been over to the states yet & my friends who've ordered there's haven't got them yet but from what I've seen it's a very good car everyone seems to be impressed with it.
All have spent $74-77 for there's I think two have had confirmation that they'll be getting there's in August.
If you really like the ZR1 then I say get one try the Z06 first as it mat surprise you with how capable it is or there's the Gran Sport which is a Z06 without the supercharger if you want open top I'd say go for a Targa Z06
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2017-Chevrolet-Corvette...
Z06 Competion (look at the times Randy Pobst did with this car around Laguna & Big Willow) this will give a bigger budget for a roadster.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Chevrolet-Corvette-FREE...
Gran Sport Competition

One car that really impressed me on a rally was the Viper ACR it's an unbelievable drivers car much lighter on it's wheels than you ever think it will be & it goes like stink a mightily impressive car but they holding their money really well.

Thinking about it over the weekend the zr1 may be a little too extreme but as you say, the z06 would probably impress anyway, ive seen some with the external carbon aero from the zr1 which looks nice, plus the alacantara with carbon for interior etc seems common on the z06, thats an absolute must after seeing the standard interior.
Looked at the ACR, its nice but the interior isnt up to the corvette and targa isnt possible, prefer the looks of the vette externaly, the v10 (had it in a srt ram we had) lacks character imo to, even with a decent exaust it sounds a bit lacking.
We have a C8 for sale here so i might venture to have a look, thats up for 98K€, waiting to hear back on if its definitely there https://www.leboncoin.fr/voitures/1746280370.htm/
Getting quite motivated on this purchase, i used to love modidying cars and thats certainly possible with the vetter should i want to get it to zr1 performance and for not massive money, could be a good journey without needing to change cars, just add bits, love doing my Lighteneing i had, even visited the staes to bring back parts
all coming back to me now..
