More London cine footage taken in 1963 & 64.

Looks like a Volvo P1800 at the 2.04 mark in the South London 64 footage. Not sure what the red motor is at about the 3.55 mark heading around that roundabout, back end looks rather E-Type coupe shaped, or a Bristol.
Gotta love these old films, just wish they weren't all from bloody London lol. You rarely see stuff like this from up north.

Watching old footage like this from the 60s, even though I'm not from London, makes me wish I had the cine footage that my dad took in the 60s of his mates short nose Jaguar D-Type when it was used as a road car. Sadly I never got to see said footage. I was gutted when I he told me it had got destroyed in a shed fire. What a piece of film that would've been of a real D-Type taken from the passenger seat driving along the roads.
The 2nd film at 4minutes is forest hill where i grew up. Have seen this film before.
Actually goes past the 1st place i lived .a flat just above where the sainsburys is.
Then i lived up by the horniman for years.
My grandparents lived in dacres road . Where it meets bampton rd.
My greatgrandad built the parade of shops in perry vale opposite the old fire station.

So you came out opposite the petrol station then.
My dad still lives in the family house in forest hill. Just riund the corner from horniman primary school.
Lovely house but the area is so so now. I have escaped to north kent. Is ok but i miss the panoramic view i used to have in f hill.

I suppose so much of it is around London based on the law of averages - far more people lived there than anywhere else. It's great to see places like Westminster Bridge with so little traffic, but then it might be like that now!

Our standard route took us to Purley Way on the A232 past the old Paynes Poppets factory then through Orpington, and Gravesend trips included a bit of the M2 when it opened.
That would have been in my Dad's 1954 Austin A40 Somerset, until he replaced it in 1967 with a 1964 Hillman Minx that I remember cost £425.
Pure nostalgia!

i was only 6 at the time!
we left around 64 ish and moved to Whitstable, my old man had got into power boats, then around 69' we moved to Folkestone and got seriously into power boats!
We had a absolute blast, for a few years, ive been trying to find a 72/73' Avenger 19 for years!

Spotted an MGA somewhere near the beginning. Anyone know what that is passing by at the 2.24 mark?. Rear end looks rather Jensen 541-ish in shape with that back window.
Someone should try and colourise these old films, though I think bringing scenes like that into colour loses a lot of its nostalgic charm.

The guy who owned the D-Type is of interest, there was also a guy who lived at Windsor, his name was Salvatore Evangelista, he also owned a road going D-Type, was it the same guy?piper said:

No that's not the same guy. The chap my dad knew owned one of the short nose Ecurie Ecosse D-Types (reg MWS 303) from the late 50s (I think), through the 60s and right up til the early 90s when the owner passed away. Clive Unsworth his name was and lived in Wigan, Lancashire. I've probably mentioned this before at some point on here. The history of that D-Type is well documented I believe, but the other cars he owned, one believed to be a an Aston DB5, I've completely drawn a blank on finding information about; local people who knew him don't seem to remember. My dad told me that he also owned an E-Type, a C-Type, a Lola, and later in life owned several vintage motors (one of them was a Crossely). Edited by Jukebag on Tuesday 19th May 13:08
