I built my current website on GoDaddy's sitebuilder and after a lot of tinkering it looks pretty much as good as my competitors who've paid for external builds. I want to trial a new revenue stream and tried to add a service booking/payment page last night and the ready made options are just too simplistic i.e. not configured to offer the right amount of information or sufficient options. Does anyone know a better option?

FYI I don't want to incur external costs until I've been able to trial the new service options but if it works I'll pay a professional to do it properly.

have a look at JOTFORM - or ELFSITE - they do loads of plugins that just work!

What kind of website have you built?

If it’s a hobby or tinkering about selling a few things the you’re doing okay.

If you are intending running a serious e-commerce site then my advice is get rid of Godaddy before you get in too deep and when you realise that it’s a major ball ache to move to another platform.

These kind of sites are cheap and cheerful for a reason and the fact you can get the site to look good is no reflection on how well it performs.

Opencart or osCommerce are a couple you should look at. There are a lot more.

Thanks both, current site is a few simple information pages and a contact form; something to send people too for more info.

New site will be for a very different service, aiming to allow people to book and pay for three or four service options, each with three or four add-ons. I get that this is a different level of complexity, I just want to run a trial before I commit to significant spend.

I'll take a look at the options. Much appreciated!

I think for what you've described your best bet would be Wordpress and Woocommerce, that with some of their plugins could do most basic Booking / addons etc and allow the flexibility you'll probably need.

It's a bit of a learning curve and often ecommerce sites / payment gateways etc can be tricky to get right so if you're serious about the project it maybe worth paying someone to do this in Woocommerce, a badly put together ecommerce site can put a lot of potential customers off and may not give you an accurate representation of if the idea is successful,

Try Shopify - they have a 90 day free trial currently and they’re focussing much more on services you can pay for online now so it should work really well. Anything extra you need can be provided through an app from their App Store.
