Front speakers

Hiya,

Im looking for some new front speakers for my 93 Chim and would like to know what the biggest size speakers are I can fit in the front without modifying the trim? Im not sure how they measure speakers i.e when they list a 130mm speaker does that mean the cut out hole has to be 130mm or the largest diameter of the speaker is 130mm??
Just had a search through the archives and there doesnt seem to be a definate answer as to what size as the manufacturers measurements differ so has anyone fitted a front set that they know fit and can recommed?

I don't think you'll fit any larger diameter speakers in there! Critical is the depth - unless you want to fit spacers at the front. You need clearance for the window mech, and you can't use too deep a speaker.

By far the best bet is to fit component speakers. Add a small tweeter at the top of the door, and a decent mid/bass unit in the main speaker hole. Add a couple of useful 6x9's in the rear parcel shelf and bobs you mothers bro. Or even 7x10 if you can get them (Kenwood) - Spinal Tap influenced of course.

Strongly recommend you speak with Carl Baker at Car & Bike Installations. He da man when it comes to all matters electrical with Tivs.

He can definitely advise you on your front speakers - however, I think you should consider the 6 x 9's in the rear parcel shelf. Carl fitted a nice pair of Alpines to my Chim recently, and they have TRANSFORMED the sound.

If you're fitting 4 speakers in the car, make sure that you filter the LF from the front speakers - or you'll actually reduce the level of bass available.
