I am really liking the Citroen DS3 cabrio and was wondering if it is known to be a reliable car? My oh does not have high opinions if it basically because it's french! When I was younger I had a Citroen saxo vtr and loved it and never had any problems with it.

I've had 2 DS3 as company cars, one was a earlier 1.2 3 pot and the other a later 1.6 turbo diesel. Both ran for about 2 years & about 20k in both.

Didn't have any issues personally, one of my colleagues cars had a juddery clutch but got sorted by the dealers. A friends OH has had a diesel one for the past couple years, fairly high mileage and only issue was a bolt somewhere on the gearbox needing changed that was a common fault but aside from that I haven't heard much wrong with them.

No idea with the cabrios but I've only had good experiences and heard good things from others that have had them.

Good car to drive, roof very good and very economical, I had the 1.2 makes a nice sound and is nippy.

Sold after 5 months last year had enough, it was on a 15 plate with 17000 on clock.
All fine at first then I discovered water ingress under driver carpet, clonking from clutch area when going up gears, ticking from engine under load and then an oil leak. All this within a few thousand miles.
I forgot brakes started to judder.
Sold at 24k to Evan's halshaw for a 2k loss.
I think that's Citroens in general though

Wife had a 1.6 petrol turbo cabrio - I absolutely hated it, harsh, steering with zero feel, outraged interior, noisy

So glad when it got written off

Can only speak anecdotally of course.. But my sister had a facelift DS3 (67 plate IIRC) on a 24 months lease, it was the 1.2 petrol I believe.

She really liked it, did about 20k miles in the 2 years, no problems with the car at all. Replaced it with one of those DS Crossbacks as she wanted something similar but with more room.

My ex partner had the earlier one - it started to rust underneath where the mirrors join the doors and around the rear arches.

It got sold before they bothered responing to the warranty claim.

Apart from that it never missed a beat - only really the read brake/hub integration that cost a bit when discs needed changed.

When I was married to her, my now ex-wife had a DS3 Sport 1.6 Turbo - 2012 I think. It had a serious engine failure that was a known issue but the dealer claimed not toknow anything about. Citroen fixed FOC as a goodwill gesture. It also rusted around the doors where the mirrors mounted.

Plus, in my opnion, it was a harsh, twitchy little car - all form and no function.

Just to add, wife has owned both regular and cabriolet DS3'S.

Both rattly, buzzy interior noises, nice engines though, especially the 120/130 1.5dci, lots of pull and very nippy.

Cabriolet has a fantastic roof, really clever and well put together, downside is the boot entrance is reduced considerably, and a carrier of groceries can just about squeeze in. Overall boot capacity nigh on the same, but entrance is small and a bit of a pain.
