Came to use my Windows 10 pc today and the password has changed. Only I know the password and it's been the same since around 2015.
Any ideas. Ive tried a different keyboard just in case something was a miss.
Its very unlikely the password has changed, its more likely to be a keyboard problem, seen you have swapped this ! odd.Any ideas. Ive tried a different keyboard just in case something was a miss.
Use the 'forgot password' option on the windows sign in.

Is it the password it’s expecting and not the PIN number option.
I used to have my pc set to request a PIN number but every now and again it would swap back to a password request.
I just set it to log in automatically in the end as I had some monitoring software running, so was a pain if it rebooted after an update. Should really change it back.

local account and have clicked the button that shows what is being typed
If you can't get in or in on the admin account then I've got a free copy of this on a bootable USB but I've not had to try it on Win10.I notice these days it's a paid product so I can't vouch for what it is now but it was brilliant back in the XP and Win7 days on our corporate devices.

Check the password you have entered using the little eye icon next to where you enter it.
Also try the onscreen keyboard, that way if say you have selected somehow another keyboard layout (US instead of UK for example) then that eliminates that.
Check you are logging into the local account and not an MS account. It seems if you enter your MS account details to say access the MS online store, if you don't tick some box or other to say otherwise, Windows will change your next logon to the MS account and not your local account.
Either way, Windows will never change your password.

Another option is that you have forgotten your password but you think you have it correct. For example, I've had the same landline number for 20 years and every so often, in my head, I transpose the last 2 digits. And then I start doubting I have the number correct if I have just told someone what it is.
And a couple of years ago I went to a cash machine, entered my PIN (that's not changed for years) and the machine said it was wrong. I took the card out and walked away, completely bemused. My PIN was then rattling round inside my head and I was sure I was correct. After an hour or so I suddenly had the correct one pop into my head. I had indeed entered the wrong PIN.
