My brother recently bought himself a cheap Mini Cooper S from eBay. He liked it so much he has gone out and bought another, much better newer example, so he is selling Mini number 1

I am tempted, it's done 166k, but with good history, its very tidy, had a new supercharger 2 years back. Are they generally okay? I mean, its made it this far! It drives very very nicely, just the age and miles putting me off. I don't mind a high mile car in the slightest, its just niggling in my mind on it being a small hot hatch. £900 and its mine! Worth a punt? Any common issues?

It is only a few months PCP payments on some cars and it'd be all yours. smile With an MoT til August, it could be good.

With all cars this age, its the consumables you need to consider IMHO. If the tyres all have good tread, the engine is OK (don't these models have a camchain, no belt?) with no big oil leaks (I see an advisory for this in 2018), all the lights works and there's no rust, only the insurance premium may put you off!

A chap a few doors up from me has had an '05 plate one for about 6 years, seems to have been reliable the exhaust is nice (not standard I think) and if the supercharger has been changed the the induction whine shouldn't be too loud!

Cheers guys. It does have a oil leak, but has been found and is being put right. This was booked in to be done before he was planning on selling. It's the rocker cover gasket so that should be sorted. Might be a fun purchase! I wish he had done more than a few miles in it to totally put my mind at rest all is good!

Do it!

For that sort of money you'd have a lot of fun and even if you've to spend a bit on maintenance at some point its not a big amount invested.

If something expensive goes bang on it, its probably still a £500 "spares or repairs" car.
