This may be a long one.
I've got a 2 year old Dell 7775 with a 256gb C drive and a 1tb D drive. The C drive is for the OS and programs, all documents, photos etc are on the D drive.
I have an admin user id and both my wife and I have our own standard user ids which we use for our everyday computing.
Each standard user id has the default storage set to the D drive.
For the first 18 months or so this was fine then I started to get the odd file disappearing but I have a backup routine in place so was able to restore the file.
I then started to get regular notifications about disk problems, I followed the instructions and everything was back to normal. A few weeks ago everything under my user on the D drive had gone but the available space was unchanged. Again I restored and, thinking its a hard drive problem, ordered a Samsung 860 Evo. This was fitted a couple of weeks ago and everything seemed OK until today. Again everything had disappeared under my D drive area and this time I wasn't able to restore fully as there were no previous versions of my documents and music folders to be found. I have got the missing data back from going directly into File History and copying them back but even there I found some documents hadn't been backed up but others had.
The odd thing is that it's only my user id affected, my wife's is absolutely fine.
I'm convinced it's all down to a Windows update, would I be best off doing a reset/reinstall? I'm really regretting leaving Apple now.

I’d try creating a new profile for yourself. When logged in as you create yourself a new admin account. Sign out then in as the new user and copy in your stuff. Use that for a bit and see if it still happens. If not then delete the old admin account.

Thanks Colin although I never use the admin account. Its given me an idea though, I'll set up a new standard user for me and see what happens.

There was a file deletion bug in Win10 a while ago ... are you up to date?
