Weird I know, I was heading to the south of France as a pretty much final role, however it being travel industry means it has gone, and will likely be years, if ever, before it comes back.

New option, iGaming, which is basically online gambling, in Malta.

Anyone got experience of either?

The industry seems typical of the regulated sectors, always on the edge and usual tensions between paying significant tax and public health.

Malta, well, never been, read some of their newspapers, seems typical of small med country having to import most stuff, relying on both services and tourism. Drive on the left, massive car ownership on a tiny island, warm, so there are some saving graces!

Experience / views welcome, I've done more nuts things before!

Tiny, overpopulated and very expensive to get out of for a drive (ferry to Sicily). Gozo is nice but still - I would never consider it for a long term living.

Amadeus? (The one that fell thru). Shame, they are a solid firm.

ETA- Amadeus, Yes, crap money but nice people and close to a home I intend to fully retire to. The immediate €300M savings have hit hard and more is likely in the short term. You work for them?

Anyway yes, tiny/ overpopulated I get, I've worked on the IoM and Jersey so cabin fever not an issue, I can't decide if it's a nice thing for a few years (before back to Fr), and like a nice holiday. Or like a package holiday to tire of.

I did for a while, left a year ago. Good bunch to work for & with. Yes, they definitely take advantage of their location though!

I had a villa on Mellieha in the north for several years.

Lovely Island, very over populated in some areas, but other parts are not.

Only about 20 miles end to end, they drive on the left, people are extremely friendly, they like the English and 99% can speak it perfectly.

It can get very hot June-August, and can be quite cold December-February with very heavy downpours which usually last a couple of hours.

I would go and have a holiday there for a couple of weeks before jumping into anything, get a feel for the place.

It's gone through big changes the last 20 years, roads mostly have been upgraded thanks to EU money, and most of the old quaint yellow 1950's buses have gone....more's the pity.
