Anyone On Shopify - New Features Announced
Discussion
I`m staggered, wasnt expecting half of whats come through. Its on you tube and worth a listen particulary about order listring and order management.
New Shopify features summarised
• Payment instalments aka Klarna going live later this year
• New theme, Express, aimed at restaurants adapting for covid, made by Shopify made super quick and super simple.
• Gift cards available for every plan (not new but worth a mention)
• Tipping feature in checkout
• Cross border stores, manage 1 store but it work perfectly in a different country. Again nothing new here, themes have now all installed currency and language support early 2020
• Editable section across the whole of the store (again not new just still WIP)
• Coming soon subscriptions and upsells
• Shopify POS pro free for a while and other POS updates
• Better integration for Facebook, mentioned yesterday and integrations with Google shopping for free! That one is epic and coming to the UK this year
• Shopify email free til October and a free plan after. Automation in email coming out this year
• Shopify ping enhancements to support chats within the company and with customers. Currently on IOS and later for the others
• Another mention for the Shop app. Track orders and follow your favourite businesses. It will be added as a sales channel with analytics and features to show off your business in the app.
• If you buy via the shop pay option it's carbon neutral and they'll plant a tree. Nice little feature
• Draft and archive state in products and 'fast' add options specifically on mobile to save you time adding
• More information on the order index page so you don't need to click in to the order ever time
• local pick up, option to schedule the pick up, to notify when they've arrived, deliver to specific postcodes and fro orders show a route to deliver these orders
• More details of Shopify fulfilment, the customisable packaging and their robot army
• Speed analytics (scary stuff but will mean us theme devs will need to pull our fingers out and make sure these themes are fast!)
• Shopify Balance - Basically a bank, speeds up payments, have a card to use at card machines, reward programmes like cashback and discounts on shipping and marketing. US this year

Nothing that helps with the real SEO issues larger Shopify stored encounter, it would be nice if they put some energy that way as it would help all their customers massively.
We’re building a site for one of the largest beauty brands in the UK, they use (for years) a pure SEO agency that charges them a fortune and has hundreds of SEO only staff. They had no issue going from bespoke to Shopify Plus and are involved in site spec and build updates. I don’t think it’s the drawback your making it out to be. However the platform isn’t as flexible as others we all know and that needs to be considered when comparing platforms. Some of the features announced have come about as a result of Corona - that is fast action and client centric.I don’t think Recharge, Klaviyo, Klarna abd Shogun will be so happy though.
just as an aside on shopify

Shopify Inc. SHOP, +2.82% Chief Executive Tobi Lutke said on Twitter Thursday that the e-commerce company will keep its offices closed until 2021 and that the majority of Shopify's employees will continue working remotely even after the company reopens its offices. "Office centricity is over," he said. Lutke expects the physical office "to act as an on-ramp to the same digital workplace that you can access from your #WFH setup," according to his tweet, which refers to working from home. He argued that the move will help employees develop further "empathy" for its merchant customers, many of which are "digital by default." Shopify shares are up 1.9% in Thursday trading. They've added 52% over the past three months as the S&P 500 SPX, -0.59% has lost 11.6%.

Could anyone recommend a decent shopify web developer? I am working on a new project and previously working on Magento I would like my new project to be built on shopify.
I need a web designer as I don’t want the website to look like a standard shopify website like everyone else’s. I have been in touch with various developers and everyone just seems to be throwing random prices from cheap to expensive.
A recommendation would be good.
Thanks

We’re a Shopify Plus agency, I can give you some help hopefully. You’ll find these prices at the lower end of the Plus agency prices, London guys can be circa 50% more.I need a web designer as I don’t want the website to look like a standard shopify website like everyone else’s. Obviously freelancers cost less but If you use a separate freelance designer and a freelancer to build it make sure the designer understands what is possible and the two of them speak prior to you investing.
To clarify Shopify works in 3 ways.
Aesthetics can be theme or bespoke, then you add functionality and integration.
A theme with basic import and no extra coding but fully set up and handed over ready to trade should be well under £5k.
A bespoke blank sheet site designed just for you will start from £15k This has a lot of design research.
The theme can be modified aesthetically but I really don’t recommend this as it could cause problems later on.
Complex data integration and warehousing / pos integration will add to the cost but expect klaviyo, Klarna, Trustpilot, loyalty lion, recharge etc to be set up within the costs above.
The ongoing cost should be less on Shopify as adding features is adding apps and all updates are in the cloud, I like that your customer data isn’t your responsibility as Shopify store abd underwrite it.
Happy to have a chat and go over options.

I have a Shopify store (non-plus) and they still haven't fixed the issue of their software guessing which carrier orders have been sent with based the an algorithm and the tracking number. Our customers are misinformed. Support told me we can't manually add carriers of our own choosing and it's fixed to their own special list.
For example, our APC overnight orders show as DHL eCommerce. We've using the API to fulfil orders as our website links in to our WMS.
We also have a strange issue of the last image being the default image once the product page has rendered but I think that's a bug with the template (Pixel Union Empire)

We had that issue from Linnworks with ParcelForce. For example, our APC overnight orders show as DHL eCommerce. We've using the API to fulfil orders as our website links in to our WMS.

I believe it’s now fixed. I’ll ask what we did (if we did! Sometimes it’s magic
) to fix it on Tuesday. cheekymeerkat said:

You have a template bug he can easily fix, you also have a WMS issue as the issue is possible, he said if your WMS isn’t too closed off he could fix but would need to take a look. Pm me if you want his details directly. Shopify, data and code ninja. For example, our APC overnight orders show as DHL eCommerce.
