Interested in this one.

I’ve never got above 16 even at my lightest (78kg), and I’ve never been able to do fewer than 12 even at my heaviest (93kg). Training them doesn’t seem to make much difference, either.

My best is 23 at a bw of 85kg, now 10kg heavier I can do 20, in my favour they have always been a staple part of my back routine, I've literally done tens of thousands over the last few years

If we're talking strict pull ups (literally dangling and then pulling so you chin is over the bar) then 13 here.

Twice!

Is there a technique to doing pull up, or is it just a matter of hacking away at it and trying to increase your rep 1 by 1?

Probably about 15.

Arms completely straight, chin to bar.

I do my pull ups on rings. I'm super strict with form. I like to make my lats burn! I can knock out 11 at a bodyweight of 90kg.

I find you need to load them to make progress as BW doesn’t seem to help me improve on them. My total is a very mediocre 12. However when I started gym I couldn’t even do one.

Low reps with heavy weights, modicum reps with a medium weight, higher reps with BW (or assisted)- get stronger across the rep ranges.

I got my best reps after doing pull downs instead of pull ups- I prefer them- more focus on the muscles you want, easier to change the resistance you need.

I have a love hate relationship with pull ups. Always found them difficult so I worked hard to get better at them. Did a best of 24 when I was 25 and also got 22 when I was 47. Probably hovering around 15 now at the age of 55.

My mate is a couple of years younger than me and did a very strict 42 reps which i found hugely impressive. He said he did 50 at 50 yrs old and watching him do the 42 I have absolutely no doubt he did.

Pull ups? Sit ups? Promise me that you’re kidding.
Life’s too short for that stuff.

I’d argue that life is too short not to try to be as fit and strong as you can.

Tons of these full-time fitness and ex gymnast types around, if they did a full time job and had a life in between then I'd be more amazed.

Anyone have an outdoor pull up bar? The ones you seem to attach to the house. Being over 6 foot I can't use the door ones.

I don't use it outdoors but I have one of these and I love it. Been using it daily for about 2-3 months and hasn't come off the wall yet which, considering my DIY skill, is an accomplishment in itself! Not currently available due to the world and his wife buying fitness gear during lockdown, but hopefully will be available again soon.
