Clutch Swap

I'm having a problem with my 94 Chim 4.0, the clutch seems to be slipping in the higher gears or when I accellerate quickly. The revs jump about 1k or so and about a second or two later the car starts to pick up speed. At least I assume a clutch replacement is the only solution?? Has anyone had a similar issue? Any ideas on prices for replacement? Did consider doing it myself one weekend but am told it's a nightmare without an engine out job. Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

Had the same problem about a 2 months ago - yes it does sound like you need a new clutch. Had mine done at P J Woods (Westcliff-on-sea) - expect a bill for around £500

Had mine done at Horizon Motorsport in Cradely Heath with some other stuff. Excellent service by the way

Clutch itself is about £250 ish

Labour is 5-6 hours at £38

So I guess the credit card gets a £500 note hit or thereabouts.

And no it is not an engine out job.

thanks guys. Just spent 300 on brakes (yesterday) so may consider a DIY job.

I'm just in the middle of doing my clutch, drop me a line and I will tell you all about it, and yes it is possible to do it with out taking the engine out.

just ordered a borg&beck clutch kit, hopefully will give it a go in the next week or two once I can enlist some help. Hope yours goes to plan, i'll drop you a line next week to get some tips!! Cheers
