So browsing bikes as I'm not loving my KTM 690 I was thinking SV650, Speed Triple, Firestorm...

I stumbled across this, I knew I was buying it as soon as I saw it

I know it's crap by pretty much every quantifiable measure although the reviews are good, even winning some against the BMW R NineT

Cosmetics need work, but it makes me smile

Nice looking bike. Their different to the usual suspects. Ive been checking out the V85TT.

Not everyone one wants a 200mph bike.

Thanks - I was expecting condemnation and accusations of midlife crisis

It needed work before it was safe to ride which I finished late last night - test ride in the dark, I had a huge grin and humming bad to the bone (the bike, not the rider)

With you there OP, I walked into a Honda dealer once to buy a NC750, walked out with a Moto Guzzi V7 and I've still got it. On every level the Honda would have been the more practical bike but once I saw the Guzzi that was it.

Is it a Griso?

I’ve always fancied one. They’ve got quite a funky turbine-like exhaust end cap from memory. Can you get 4 valve & 8 valve versions? Also one with sporty wheels.

Are these bigger than the R9T? I sold mine as at 6'2" it was just too compact for me.

Yes

Some have (I don''t like it and neither did the PO so it has an endcan)

Yes later ones are 8v - faster and revvier

Some have spokes not sure if they are sporty ?

I love the black but I must admit the green looks stunning

I'd looked at Guzzis in the past as an older mate had an 80's one 25 years ago, I wondered why as most things were faster that it - he just smiled.

What was wrong with the 690?. I’m looking at either a hypermotard 950 or a 890r so interested in your opinion on the 690?.

Nothing is wrong with it as such, I'd only had dirt bikes on the road (KTM 450) so wanted something like that and that wasn't too quick.

I wanted it for tootling around the B roads - but it doesn't like going slowly (standard it won't ride below 4k) and I found myself going faster and faster - combined with idiots cutting corners coming the other way I decided narrow lanes weren't the place to be and on fast A roads it's crap (IMO) it has an upright position but you're never upright, you're bent forwards - so you may as well buy a bike with a sportier position to start with.

Ridden a bunch of Moto Guzzi's in the past. My local dealer also had the franchise for them and offered lots of rides on them.

Yeah, they are measurably worse than most things on the market, but they are actually pretty good fun to ride. Nice torque, handle well and lots of style. One thing I would comment is that the low speed handling was amazing! Been looking at them here in the US - plenty for sale and going back a few years they are positive steal. Really tempted!

Probably get it for a little less than they are asking and this is from a dealer! Will have tax and registration on top, but could be a steal! You will struggle to get a BMW with 3 times the mileage for that price.
