Hi all, my BT broadband is up for renewal and I've looked and to renew it will increase yet new customers are offered a discount. . . .how do I get the discount? Cheers

I’m looking at exactly the same scenario. I think the only option is switch provider. It’s painful.

Saw on Martin Lewis money TV program thingy that Vodafone are offering 60mb internet for I think £23 on comparison sites (not directly). Might be of use?

I recently renewed mine and did it by chat and then someone called.

Got 80Mb broadband, phone line with a bunch of add-ons - £31.99 and unlimited time (that's new for BT, they used to be limited to an hour) calls 24/7 inc to mobiles - £7.08. The also sent a new HH6 (I think it's called that) free although it's no different in use to the old one, which worked fine.

I'm stuck with BT as we have 'call-sign' which gives a second number on the line for work and, as far as I know, only BT do that.

I'm also a little put off by stories from colleagues who've moved to Virgin and Sky and had a load of hassle.

Thanks for your comments but would rather stay with BT as service is good but can't afford a price increase

Each year I always switch between BT & Plusnet via TopCasback, renew offers are never as good as a new customer offer. Plusnet uses the BT system and is owned by BT

My bt Internet deal has expired and I have this week switched to Vodafone.

Half the price (22.95 minus 2.00 as I'm a mobile customer) and an offer of 75.00 on Amazon vouchers. Brings the monthlies to circa 18.50ish.

Twice the speed of bt as well (they claim) being superfast 2.

Change is in a couple of weeks as I've paid till 11 Jun.

I appreciate you don't want to charge from BT, and nor did I as it worked fine, but for 1/2 the price and twice the speed.....

What about Zen Internet?

I have been a Zen customer for 3 years now and last year my price decreased when I renewed my contract. I am paying £28,99 a month for 40Mbits/sec down and 10Mbits/sec up. U.K customer support, static IP address and IPv6 support.
This. Switched my mothers connection to them and haven’t looked back. Excellent service and guaranteed no price increases. She had been with BT for ever before that. BT insisted they could only take about £2 a month off when she called up to haggle. Started switch to Zen and BT then called up offering a huge discount to stay. Too late, carried on with the switch then as they had proven themselves to be a shower of...

Good luck with twice the speed!, assuming its over the same Openreach line.

Another vote for Zen with the proviso that you keep an eye on the current price when your contract runs out. If it's lower give them a call & they will drop you down to the new price (for another year's contract of course). If it's higher you can keep your lower price.

Phone them up and ask how to cancel, they will ask why, tell them you are moving to X (and have those prices ready) and then haggle.

Always works for me.

Do all service providers using openreach give the same speeds, or do some have a greater share of bandwidth (if that's even a thing)? I.e. would EE and Zen provide exactly the same service as BT?

Need the speed/reliability, but don't want a 24 month contract with BT...

Go with Zen. Not the cheapest but they have the best service and won't increase your price (mine actually went down when I moved house recently...)

Try Plusnet, they are owned by BT but often less costly. Same reliability as BT but with much better customer service. Call them if they don’t have the deal you want on their web site and ask them for their best deal for you.

Zen. Great customer support from people in the UK. Great pricing and you get a fixed IP address too for fee.

Did that, they would put me on the same price (£37/m) and provide me with Halo 1.
Stopped the guy then, and said it was £30 before the contract expired, so not interested.

Came back and said I can get the same deal (37Mb) for £19.99, 24m contract.

Told him that this is higher than the price I am getting with VF (taking £75 Amazon voucher into account), and for approx 1/2 the speed.

It ended pretty soon after that.

BUT to the OP, give them a call 0800 800 150 and get your package down if you want to remain with BT, £20/m should be achievable....

I would strongly disagree with plusnet reliability.

37 connection currently at 4meg speed tested.
Regularly drops out.

On second router as first was faulty but still the same.

Coverage in house is abysmal

Changed home number without telling me. Don't use it so it took 9 months to realise when school tried to contact me... no apology or slightesr concern to change it back. Can't wait to drop them.

Avoid.

I was set to leave BT for plusnet, all paperwork done and router in post. BT called to say as they owned plusnet they'd drop price to match for same service. Massive racket, no mention of why the same service was twice as expensive before that call. Would have cancelled if not for pain in the arse. next time...
