Hi all, I'm after a tail bag as I'm sick of wearing a rucksack for commuting. It needs to be between 15-20litres as I need enough room for a uniform, lunch, keys, phone, wallet and the usual crap. Ideally it needs to be waterproof as well as I commute all year, in all conditions. Any recommendations would be great. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. They look the part, and so does the blade but are they waterproof?

Hi,

I also have a Kreiga US 20, although not used it for commuting yet.

You can get a kit to fit it as a tank bag as well if you wanted to.

Thanks,

Cheers fellas. I'm not to keen on tank bags as I find them distracting and feel as though they get in the way.

I love my Kriega kit, I’ve got absolutely loads. And it’s been all over Europe many times, in many different weathers. It really is as good as everyone says.

The only problem you have is that they work better when full, and you need to pull the straps pretty tight for them to be effective.

You might get squished sandwiches..

Would something semi rigid be better, SW Motech or similar?

I love my Kriega tailbag but I love my Hepco & Becker kit even more thumbup

The Hepco & Becker rear bags are 'Kriega quality' without the problem of squished sandwiches. The Hepco & Becker Royster range is 100% waterproof without the need for a cover, and mine has never leaked a drop.

I think the Germans keep schtum about Hepco & Becker because they want to keep this luggage to themselves wink

Kriega tends to be the default answer on these threads. I've never tried it but sure it's very good.

I've had a couple of SW Motech bags (cargobag, and a tail pack), both have had plenty of use and been excellent, both fit well on the pillion perch of a sports bike.

My order of preference – having used them all – would be:
  1. Hepco & Becker
  2. Kriega
  3. SW Motech
But all three are excellent.

I too have Kreiga stuff and find it useful and decent quality. But it is not perfect. Completely concur about it being best by being full. It doesn't secure well when not full. It also allows your clothes to move about and crease. It is also a faff when you stop to take something out...waterproofs for example ....there are lots of straps to undo and re tighten. My riding mates have BMW 's and they have Motorad tail bags and they are always waiting for me as I redo straps. Also only the inner liner is waterproof the outside isn't. I have had mine fail and finished up with wet clothes on day one of a three week trip.
