WAs down at my dealer today and noticed a 991 and 992 Targa parked ... Personally I refer the rear of the 991:

They're both 991's. One on left is a gen 2, the right a gen 1.

I prefer the one on the right - it looks neater and better resolved.

It's unlikely I'll ever have one - I imagine the roof mechanism is very complex, which means as they age they are likely to be expensive to fettle if anything goes wrong.

I really like how they look, but a coupe is probably a better long term proposition.

Definitely the gen 1 - I just can’t take to that daft looking red light extending all across the back.

Eta Oops, didn’t notice they both have it. I shall buy neither then! I’ll stick with my ropey 2.7 986 for only that reason wink

Wise words. A mate has a 993 Targa which the rood won’t open on...the potential repair bill is absolutely ludicrous...he’s been told it’s somewhere in the £5k to £10k region as when they pullthe roof apart things like rubber seals are likely to have to be replaced as well as whatever is causing the problem.

To the OP’s question I think they both look great.

I prefer the 991.2. (looks wise)
I really like the deck design with it‘s vertical strikes and also the front is a very neat design.

I purchased a new Targa 4S a few years ago (£106k) and sold it 11 months later, only lost £6k, so they could hold their value better?

Gosh. Is the 991 really as big as an offroad vehicle?

991.2 all the way for me. 992 Targa is the best of the bunch IMO though.
