I've got family in the peak district, where their broadband is extremely limited.

They get around 2-4mb down, 0.1-0.3up. Even basic web browsing is hard work.

From OFCOM website they are in an area with what looks to be good outside coverage for 4G on o2 and Three.

As a result, I want to try them out with a data sim, router and external antenna to see how that works for them.

Does anyone have any experience with this?tried it before? Any tips? Equipments recommendations?

Thanks,

Troubleatmill

Yes.

There is a thread running on this.. lots of great info

I have used:

Hauwei B525 router
Poynting directional router ( Which I will be selling - as moved into a location I no longer need one.)
Also tried a Poynting non directional router. Better than internal - but not as good IMHO as the directional one.
EE 4G data card.

The directional antenna makes a huge difference. Will take you a couple of hours to play about to get the best lock onto your local Mobile data mast.

I should say - Got 50MB down and 16 up. compared to 5Mb down and 2 up compared to internal
