Anyone recently enquired about getting this activated for their own car? Have a '66 VW Passat and from doing a quick google it seems to be a trip to the dealer, hand over £150-ish + VAT and they'll activate it for you. Which if true seems very steep for something that is now included in basic trims for pretty much all cars.

Is this still the case?

Software as a service. Could be worse, BMW was looking at charging £85 per year for CarPlay!

It's not much different to some of the similarly prices VW options that are just a tick in a menu (if you've vagcom / OBD11) e.g. auto-headlights

It’s been cracked on the earlier VW platforms I believe, there was a guy offering to get it activated on the T6 forums, but as it’s against policy the thread got deleted.

To be fair I use CarPlay all the time, it’s well worth the cost.
