Rear Wheel Bearing

where's best source for a replacement wheel bearing for a 400SE rear near side? NW preferably

I assume I need a bearing and new hub nut??

Yes, its a ford bit. Granada Mk one from memory, but the problem is that you also need a special inner seal that doesn't come with the standard bearing kit.

I just ordered one from RT last week. £59 + VAT and delivery.

Yes definatey bearing - had some expert assistance to identify problem - but he doesn't have a hydraulic press or 30+mm spanner or big %$*%ing torque wrench

I believe that the inner seal can be reused & new ford part is £23 incl VAT. I understand it's a reasonably straight forward job :famouslastwords:

A press will make the job a lot easier, although it is possible to do it without. You can bash the old one out, as it doesn't matter if you damage it. It's better to use a press to put the new one in, as there is less risk of damaging it.
Also a 3/4" drive socket makes it easier to get the nut off and you need a torque wrench that will torque the nut to 230lb/ft.
The bearing is MK2 Granada but the same seal is used for the inner and outer (can't remember if it's the inner or outer that's used twice). Personally I would just buy the bearing from RT and you will get the seals required.

I can understand where you're comming from but I've had to live off beans and dried bread to pay Mr RT this year -he's done a good job but he misses is begining to wonder why I'm always skint

Are you based in the North West? I live in Manchester. If I can help out let me know. I've got all the tools to do the job except the press, but I know a couple of people that can help here.

Shame you are not located in Cambridge, I built meself a 20 ton press for this job, and I have all the tools, and three new spare wheel bearings. I'd be happy to help out.

I'd be quite intrigued to see how you built a press? I was pondering doing the same utilising a chunky bottle jack as power.....

We've done this before but be very careful you get the right parts. Preferably take the worn parts with you when you make the order
