Odd things your friends do?

A former friend of mine, someone I had known for just over twenty years, got married in 2004. In the fifteen years or so since the marriage, not once did I see a picture of his wife, let alone meet her. I found this somewhat odd, especially as we were actually quite close friends. I suspect he was insecure about something or wasn't ultimately happy with the choice he made. Who knows. I came to realise he was a bit of a bulls

One of my best mates always blamed his wife for every decision he made - we’d plan to go out but then he wasn’t allowed to go until his kids were in bed, he was only allowed to drink two pints etc. He made it seem like he was properly under the thumb.
I had it out with him as I couldn’t understand how he could live like that and the story changed. He works long hours and putting the kids to bed was the best bit of his day. He didn’t want to drink much so he could be up early with them without a hangover.
Why he thought I wouldn’t have respected him far more for letting me know he was being a decent dad I don’t know, he just felt it easier to blame the wife. ‘Going out is not as important to me as my children’ makes much more sense than ‘my wife controls me’!
I had it out with him as I couldn’t understand how he could live like that and the story changed. He works long hours and putting the kids to bed was the best bit of his day. He didn’t want to drink much so he could be up early with them without a hangover.

The most bizarre thing I've experienced was a pal saying out of nowhere in the pub 'Look, I'm really good looking. My wife is really good looking. Why am I not being paid to drive cars around and wear clothes with branding on them? People like to see good looking people. I should be making a lot of money right now endorsing products.'
He was truly mystified and a little angry this wasn't happening.
There was an appalled silence for what seemed like an eternity then he went back to normal. I always suspected he felt that way but to hear it voiced out loud like that was something I never expected to witness. He spent a lot of time in California so perhaps he was having a moment.
And he's perfectly fine to look at but I wouldn't go out of my way to gaze upon him.

My mate, 67 and five foot three, never had a girlfriend, kisses every woman he meets but puts his hands on their arms to hold them while he does it. It looks like he's trapping them. God help him if he ever meets my sister...
One of my best mates has physical Tourette’s. I met him at secure a home day, where you find a rental property in your university town. On our first walk to the student union, after having known the guy for all of eight hours, he suddenly jumped over a wall into a basement car park. He smashed his watch and was a bit bruised and banged up. He had no explanation for why he just made a very piss poor suicide attempt. We carried on to the union and had a great first evening together. I almost forgot about it.
We were both mountain bikers. On one of our first rides together we were riding along a trail at a steady pace and he threw himself over a barbed wire fence into a cornfield. He did it such a way as his bike carried on beside me for a few seconds. Again, no explanation.
There were lots of other smaller incidents, touching a hot frying pan, dancing like an old man in front of a group of attractive women. Really random, inexplicable stuff.
I eventually found out that he would sometimes feel physically compelled to do something if the thought entered his head ‘I mustn’t do that’. He said it wasn’t a completely compelling urge but more that he would rather do it than not...
Anyway, it made for some extremely amusing times over the years and I think more people could do with a touch of unpredictability.

You obviously weren't invited to the wedding - did you not ask why?
You never went to his house? ..or was she always out?

At the time of the wedding we had sort of drifted apart but again, that may have been deliberate on his part because he didn't want others to know what he had let himself in for...You obviously weren't invited to the wedding - did you not ask why?

I rarely went to the house because there are better places to socialise than someone's house and also, we eventually lived 400 miles apart.
I think I did ask to meet/see a picture of her, but just the once because he seemed to dismiss the idea quite quickly.
He had social media to a certain degree but because he wasn't actually that social, he used it more for keeping tabs on other people.
Why would you be alarmed to see photos of yourself on Facebook anyway? Are you a local dignitary of some description?
