I've always had a soft spot for Volvos which let to me buying a Volvo V70 a few years ago which met an untimely demise when this happened:
I've been hankering for another one ever since, and this popped up locally for £NotVeryMuch.
I'm rather pleased and it carries its 167000 miles very well indeed. The interior in particular is a lovely place to be, save for some scratches on the passenger door card. The bodywork is also straight with a couple of Tony dings here and there - but it certainly looks well for its age. It's got no funny noises, the suspension feels really solid (it also has receipts for a fair bit of suspension work in the last couple of years)
Current known issues:

- Oil leak from a crank seal - awaiting parts (seal & core plug) from Volvo to sort
- NSF headlamp bulb needs renewing - will be done at the same time as the crank seal
- I suspect it's no longer AWD
This is still waiting for the parts for the crank seal renewal to be available from Volvo, but in the meantime I've given it a good wash & polish, as well as giving the interior a good clean as well. It wears its miles really well inside:
There are a few cosmetic / minor issues on the outside such as a missing centre cap, smashed foglight (I'm guessing a stone was thrown up) and a seized headlamp wiper motor.
Despite my mechanic saying the bumper would need to come off to renew the headlamp bulb, it was actually a very easy job without having to remove anything, so it's no longer a "one-eyed monster".
Really can't wait for this to be fit for daily use!

Oooh - I would have jumped at that.Well I now have the Volvo back, now that my mechanic has had a good play with it. It's ended up with him basically going through the engine bay finding everything wrong with it and putting it right. Hefty bill at £750ish, but some of that was covered by the (trade) vendor because they sold me a car with a massive oil leak! We now have... new top engine mount, vacuum mount, gearbox mount, main (crank?) oil seal, core plug, CV boot, fixed a slight exhaust blow & an oil & filter change. Hopefully that'll be it for the time being!
Spent a couple of days commuting in it, and it's been great so far. the 163hp D5 engine is one of the better diesels I've driven, although a touch agricultural now and then. It's got enough power to make light work of overtakes, but it's not 'quick' at all, and fairly ponderous off the mark - the shove comes in at 40+ mph! The OBD is telling me I'm averaging 48mpg, however I suspect it's rather optimistic - we'll see when I brim the tank again.
Despite a load of receipts for work, it's not got any gearbox-related receipts which is important with these. However, I strongly suspect (as does my mechanic) that it's had a new 'box. It changes absolutely perfectly and totally smoothly as well as the fluid being red in colour - not dark at all. I doubt it'd have seen its 167000 miles without at least one fluid change. So it's either been changed regularly or it's had a new box. Either is fine by me!
Put 30k on my 06 v70 d5 since buying it last august hands down best car I've ever had. I would love an xc just pumped way too much money into the old girl now and its never missed a beat so until something goes dramatically wrong i will have to wait.
Enjoy the car mate. I never want to drive anything else as a daily until i meet my maker. They are all you need and the money they go for is insane value. Jealous, enjoy !!!!

Did a couple of hundred miles up the motorway and back today for work. 200 miles a quarter of a tank seems good. The OBD is reporting 46mpg, but I'm assuming it's being optimistic.
I'll brim it tomorrow and see what I calculate!
Small update!
Finally got around to sorting the broken front fog lamp and the inoperative headlamp wiper (see photos above!). It's tidied the front of the car up no end:
I should really have cleaned the bumper before taking the photos, as you can see where I had my mucky paws all over it when refitting the bumper. I also went to my favourite spot to take car photos:
