TT Mk1 running gear into race car project - Diff positioning
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm currently, or should I say was and will again when we are over the current situation, hillclimbing and sprinting a MK1 TT with reasonable success here in the South West and attempting to build a lightweight special to take advantage of the TT set up.
As a project for the future I am building a "special" fitting TT running gear into a stripped out Mk2 Golf. I have pretty much sorted the front, engine in place, TT uprights/hubs and extended Mk4 golf wishbones to accept the wider track. I have removed a large section of the boot floor, centre tunnel etc the fit the prop and haldex/diff and have hit a problem, not the first and certainly not the last, but would like some friendly advice.
In a nutshell, ignoring height, the prop leaves the transfer box roughly 60-70 mm off centre towards the offside (RHD) of the car. From all my measurements the rear diff subframe sits centrally and the diff flange central to this.
Is this the same on the TT? (I cant get under the race car to measure) if so where is this difference compensated for, I can only think the prop bearing but this puts strain on the rubber drives either end.
Any help would be great, perhaps someone has a TT on a ramp who could have a quick looksee, If the prop leaves the transfer box centrally to the car I'm back at square one!
Many thanks in advance.
Frank
