ip connection to Belkin access point
Discussion
I’m trying to reinstall a Belkin router as an access point to extend my network via Ethernet to outbuildings.
I can connect through this router to my main Orange Livebox and out to the internet via 192.168.1.1
What I cannot do is connect to the Belkin router! I’ve reset it to factory settings. It is connected via an ordinary port to the Orange Livebox as required for an access point (not adsl port).
My Linux/Ubuntu laptop is connected to the router via a regular port too.
I cannot connect to the Belkin router (access point) via its default address of 192.168.2.1 to configure it.
Why not!? Aaaargh.
Please help!
P.s. this equipment has worked fine in the past, but I’ve just replaced the Livebox. I’m no network specialist but I’m boogered if I can remember how I configured it before as it was a couple of years back...

In Mint, which is a fork of Ubuntu, you can click on the network icon at the bottom RH of the screen, and then click on a cogwheel to change the network settings. Instead of choosing automatic (dhcp) you need to manually enter an address - 192.168.2.2 with a netmask of 255.255.255.0
This will put you in the same subnet as your Belkin abd should enable you to connect to it. You won't have internet connectivity at the point, as your router is then on a different subnet - 192.168.1.1
