My nomination: The Cult - brilliant band, but it just doesn’t seem ‘right’ they’re not American.

They Might be Giants should probably have been British.

Any others?

I always thought 10cc could have been Yanks instead of Mancs.

Man. A largely forgotten Welsh band from the 1970s, and the only British band that truly caught the San Francisco vibe like the Dead and Quicksilver.

Having grown up with them in the local background, they have always been very British to me.

Whitesnake went from a quintessentially British blue rock band into an American cock rock band more or less overnight, to their detriment. Probably made a few bob though.

I only found out the other day that Garbage are an American band, I knew Shirley Manson was Scottish and just assumed the rest of the band were British as well.

Rick Astley, only found out he was English a couple years ago. Though I can't really say I'm a fan or thought about it, just surprised me hehe

Absolutely. And Sparks. In fact, anyone with clever / ironic lyrics. The Yanks just don't get it. Probably why Sparks are pretty unknown in the States.
