Keeping a backup of Historic WhatsApp

Ok need a little guidance

I’d like to save an Entire Chat History with a nutter ex in some way I can take it & all the pictures of her/us off my phone. I’ve seen the “export chat” thing but I’ve 1100 pics/videos.

Context for a lot of these is key due to some informal allegations that surfaced at the time. (This thread is the only evidence of us being in a relationship for 4mths) after going through with local Police at the time (which I initiated) they advise me to keep a copy as no complaint had been received by them, I did & paid to get storage on my Apple account to manage this with the automatic update, but now I’m really wanting to get off my phone, (Just away to change phone which got me thinking about it)
As the kind of allegations that were raised are of a very serious nature & I don’t want anything coming out if the woodwork down the line & have nothing to prove otherwise. (Also mindful of Scottish Revenge Pornography laws etc & being careful how I save these)

At the time I tried the export chat from my phone but didn’t manage, Is there a way of accessing WhatsApp on a desktop & saving from there? I am ok with going to a tech shop / person & letting them do this, guessing the police must have a way of doing it & ideally that’s what I’d want.

There is a WhatsApp web client, I’m not sure if it had access to historic messages though

Low rent option: screen recorder, then scroll down through all the messages? Should give a permanent record that could be transcribed if necessary

So why not use the export chat function?

I have just tried on a group of mine with over 900 pictures and videos and the export file was 900MB

I might re-visit that, at the time I couldn’t get it to work with the big chat, I played with another one & got that done but seemed to remember I needed to email the file & it was too large, just really want this done & properly, I’d googled it earlier & saw a way to put into a pdf which I thought would be great but it wasn’t with media embedded in it.

If it’s saved as exported chat can it only be viewed by me importing back into WhatsApp?

I’m good if this is something I need to pay for for my piece of mind.

A rather stupid simple thought can I just get my new phone transfer everything across delete everything in my new phone & stop backing up the old one?

You can email a complete chat (with or without photos/videos) to yourself.

You should be able to export to “files” so it will end up on your iCloud storage.

Thanks for help I’m just not getting anything into my iCloud files, takes about 5mins to export but just doesn’t appear. Trying again It did save to my yahoo email but then I couldn’t s send to myself as exceeded maximum attachment size (no idea how big) I’ll keep trying but think I need help

Use the iPhone built in screen record function and as others have said then scroll through?

It will take time to upload to icloud... If its 1gb + then its not gonna happen in a second.

Here you go.... So unless there is an issue with something your end it is possible.

Once downloaded you can unzip that file and you will have all the photos videos and a .txt file of the transcript.

This - export chat, save to Files, and wait.

I export to Files from a different app, and thought it wasn't working as it seemed to do it but the file wasn't there, but it just takes time when working with large files.
