Discovered this in the attic whilst clearing some stuff;

My Dad brought it back from an overseas trip for me many years ago, probably late '60s/early '70s. Had it on my bedroom wall for many years but it stopped working long ago and since I left my parents home has languished in the dark of the attic.

I don't suppose it's worth much but would look interesting in my workshop/office/cave.

Anyway, out of interest I put a new battery in it and it works, well sort of - it 'ticks' and the second hand moves for a while before sticking, when it sticks then the hands (all of them) stop moving but it continues ticking. Shaking it seems to re-start it again so I'm thinking a good clean of the mechanism might help?

I've taken the glass off and can remove the clock fixing screws but am reluctant to pull the hands off as I don't want to break anything, presumably some sort of watch hand puller might work - any ideas?

Whatever you do be careful, it’s a great looking thing...

Protect the dial with some card or plastic sheet, get some pullers of eBay. You might find there is aN alternative replacement movement that will fit and still be able to use the hands, cousinsuk do them, is it a watch movement or clock (based on battery size)?

It's a clock movement, uses a 'AA' battery.

Fits to the wheel with 4 screws, the top 2 being split pins that the cover pushes over.

I left the battery in it for an hour or so this morning, it was still ticking but the hands not moved and the battery was getting warm.

Will try some pullers.

Have removed the clock now.

There's an electric 'motor' that oscillates a weight, said weight turns a wheel by clicking in and out with some kind of keyway on the motorshaft which then drives the clock through a few gears.

'Motor' seems fine, gearing seems OK but the 'ratchet' mechanism sticks every now and then causing the clock to stop but still ticks as the motor is still working.

Have dismantled and cleaned (was very clean anyway) and have tried a small amount of lube but no change. It's hard to see as it's so small but I think the mechanism where the ratchet 'pin' sits in the wheel is worn (leading edge of the gear looks to be?) and causing an occasional blockage - if I nudge it, it will start again.

Highly doubtful that parts or a new mechanism is available so may have to scrap the idea unless I can find a quartz movement that will fit in the case?

Maybe contact this guy. He seems to do repairs on old movement types including the old electric and electro mechanical types.
