Following on from the thread comparing LM vs F1, I have heard that a Lancia Delta S4 was driven round Estoril in 1986 and that the lap time acheived would have qualified the Delta 6th on the grid.

I have done some searching, but can't find any confirmation that this actually happened.

Can anyone add any info? It seems a little far fetched, but the Group B cars were pretty fast.

I too have heard this on occasion, but finding anything other than hearsay on the Internet can be somewhat difficult...

I've heard this on many occasions, and can't find any proof. The only thing I can think is that qualifying for the GP that year was wet, and the rally stage was run in the dry. Still pretty impressive.

this happened shortly before the 1986 portugese rally, when henri toivonen lapped the circuit in a delta s4.
